Plantation shutters? Basswood or PVC ?

Living near Noosa in old queenslander and 200m away from a saltwater lake. Looking at the possibility of adding plantation shutters and see them made from basswood and PVC.

given the salt air and humidity what is the best option? I just found this mentions cedar which I know is quite oily and hard to paint?
