G'day All,

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. I've never been good with my hands and anything I've attempted to make out of wood has ended in disaster. For example the spice rack that mum thought was a coat hanger and the coat hanger dad thought was a spice rack lol :U. I've been doing photography for years though and recently came across an awesome wooden photography box (to photograph various object in) a gentlemen in the Netherlands has made. The gentlemen has made it completely portable and I've been searching for someone on the Gold Coast who can help me make it. I guess that is what brought me to the forums. I want someone with attention to detail and a good understanding of woodworking to help me or make it for me because so far I have spent money and been disappointed. If anyone is keen to help please give send me a private message. Whilst I am at it I will be keenly reading the forums because I'd like to get better with my hands and even try my hand at wood turning. Hopefully my parents will notice I've turned a bowl and not think its a helmet :U. Have a nice day all and take care for the new year. I look forward to hopefully improving my wood working techniques :D

Regards,
Jay

G'day Jay and welcome to the REAL world!!:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

Plenty of help here and being on the GC you have access to turning clubs and plenty of great turners.

Welcome to the forum. As suggested you might want to join one of the wood working / turner clubs. It will give you access to the lathe as well as some experience before you need to spend a large amount of money.

I will also suggest posting your question in the box section of the forum as not everyone looks in this part of the forum, here is the link
BOX MAKING (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f87/)

There is also a photography section in this forum here, PHOTOGRAPHY (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f122/)

G'day Jay. Welcome to the forum. There are a number of clubs here abouts and we always have the doors open to new members - young or old.

GC Woodturners are at Mudgeeraba (and there might be one somewhere on the Tweed).
http://gcwoodturners.com.au/
Beginner classes are Mon and Thurs nights and will start again in a few weeks.

The Men's shed Assoc website will give you contacts names and numbers for a half dozen or so local sheds too. As far as I know, only Labrador boasts it's own website.
Mens Sheds Men's Sheds AMSA Australian Men's Shed Asscociation (http://www.mensshed.org/home/.aspx)
Men’s Shed Labrador Inc. (http://www.mensshedlabrador.org.au/Mens_Shed_Labrador/Welcome.html)

Don't be shy. Asking questions and sharing ideas is part of the learning experience.
