What can i use to silently close a pool type gate and latch it??

I have a gate on the front of the property that has spring loaded hinges right now and makes a huge slam when people use it and not close it quietly and wakes people up at night time.
It needs to close with a bit of force to latch itself like a normal door would.
anyone got any ideas on what i could use to allow this gate to close then silently latch with a bit of force??
i have tried using a normal door closer but it wont work as the top parts of the fence that stick up get in the way of the arm and will look stupid if i have to remove them.
the gate open this way, the left hand one opens towards you and the right picture opens away from you.
