Can anyone tell me what the process is for painting clear acrylic with a view to the painted side being glued onto a door of MDF using V60 silicone? :? Is acrylic paint or enamel paint best? Do I have to use a etching paint first?

Hi,

There is a paint called Krylon which is used on many plastics, I have not used it myself but have heard of others using it. I am not sure of the painting process although I would imagine the plastic would need to be etched first with their special etching/primer prior to painting. I done a google search for Krylon so you should be able to find out more.

Cheers
Tony.

If you used a primer first, then that would be the colour you would see through the acrylic. I have done this with aerosol enamel before and it can look great, but you need to be very careful not to damage the painted side when gluing it in place. I would suggest wiping some acetone over the surface to be painted as a mild etch. Don't leave it on for too long though, you only want to slightly dull the super shiny finish.
As always, test on a piece of scrap first.
