Please don't expect any sensible/helpful posts from me for a little while (I know, I know I'm not very sensible or helpful  ) Currently in Townsville, love of my life is having surgery tommorrow morning to remove a brain tumour :( (6th lot of surgery). I'll still be logging in to see what's happening, read the jokes etc for a bit of R & R but I'm finding it pretty hard to concentrate on anything much. I know there was a thread about bathroom linings in tile lux sheeting that I started on, but it's all a bit too much like work at the moment.

We've never met Mick, and the only reason that I know of your misfortune is that we share a common interest in woodworking and hence the reason why we both access this website. However, I'm sure that all of us have families and at times have experienced similar feelings to what you are currently going through.

I hope all turns out well and that things get better from here.

Thanks for all your kind thoughts, well wishes, prayers and jokes everyone (not neccesarily in that order  ). Operation was between 1.30 - 5.30 this afternoon. She's in ICU now, fairly lucid, in pain but has "the button" which is controlling it well. A bit of loss of function on one side again but some physio will hopefully sort it out. Hope to be going home on the weekend, but more likely next week. Thanks again all,

A humbled Mick

Thanks for the update Mick, have been looking a few times today. I'm really glad & happy that it all went well, will carry you guys in thoughts and prayers. That button is a great invention!!! It kept me relatively painfree and happy last September.

Take care mate

Nows the time to go out and buy a new truck. When she gets back home just tell her you've had it for months, the operation must have caused her to loose a bit of memory:D

Got the SWMBO out of hospital today, along with 10 days supply of really strong pain killers. ;) Driving home tommorrow morning early after her first night without people waking her up at all hours to ask her who and where she is and shining lights in her eyes :( . We'll both be taking it pretty easy for a bit, but I'll find some time to post pics of the goodies I picked up in Townsville. :)

Mick, my SWMBO went through a similar thing about 18 years ago, and while it was, to say the least, pretty traumatic at the time, all has turned out well now. I sincerely wish for the same result for your good lady, and peace of mind for yourself.

Well, we're still not home. The head wound started leaking clear fluid last night (CSF, cerebro-spinal fluid). So I spoke to one of the nurses in the neuro ward who told me to bring SWMBO in to the emergency dept for a doc to look at it. Of course we were there for a while before a doc looked at it, they were worried and readmitted her. By the time she was in a bed in the ward it was 2am so I only got about 2.5 hrs sleep last night. So this morning they drained fluid from between her scalp and skull and applied a pressure bandage and said she'd have to stay in for a day or two. Then about an hour later the specialist came in, said it was all unneccesary (expalined all the whys and wherefores) and said she could go home. Of course by then she had had another shot of morphine so they couldn't actually let her leave. Anyway, we're out now and hope to be leaving early tommorrow. Just had about 4 hours sleep too. :)

Good news (I hope) . I wouldn't have the responsibility of a neurosurgeon for twice the fee but it's nice to have one around when he's needed! I hope it all turns out OK Mick. All the best to your missus, and "here here" to all the posts on this thread. Keep strong, mate, she's lucky to have a bloke like you.
Cheers,
