Big A
4th November 2012, 04:33 PM
Hello to all,
(Or hello to the few people that look here!)
I see that my second post has been moderated (sorry ), so I thought that I better read the rules of the forum, and get in and introduce myself.
I am no longer young, but as they say, “Old enough to know better, but young enough to do it again!” I retired from the Queensland Public Service at the end of 2005, and have been a permanent casual in the people movement business since then. So I cannot apply myself fulltime to any pastime, hobby or timewasting exercise yet.
Because I was born into a rural industry (beef cattle), I had a diverse “education”. I never learnt a trade, but learnt from my father and others how to do lots of things and of course still learning. I guess I have a lot of abilities and some skills. The skills would be for others to say, though.
If I was to do “nothing” fulltime, I would do woodturning, some furniture restoration and a bit of blacksmithing. And be a part time caravan repairer.
My forum name of “Big A” is simply because workmates started calling me that as my given name is Alister. Two syllables instead of three – big saving!
There are a couple of woodworking clubs around Rockhampton, I think. I will look into that in due course, but at the moment I am happy to bumble around on my own. That way I have no preconceived notions of what can’t be done. I do, however give more than a passing thought to safety.
Thanks all for this wonderful forum. I look forward to learning more from it and also contributing on the odd occasion I may have something useful to say.
Alister.
