Hi all,
My name is Clarence, and I've joined on this forum as I am in need of some help and guidance for a grand project I have in my head!
I'd like to carve a small-ish elephant carving for my girlfriend's 30th birthday in January. (thread is here (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f10/absolute-newbie-any-beginner-resources-161301/)).
If anyone is in (south-east) Melbourne and is often doing woodwork/carving and doesn't mind a pair of watchful eyes, I'd love to come and visit to see how it's done!

A bit about myself; I am a photographer specialising in automotive photography, you can see some of my work here (www.facebook.com/tangcla.photography) if you are interested. I work as a financial analyst during the daylight hours.

G'Day & Welcome Clarence,
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.
Cheers Crowie

PS - we're all novice at somethings.....

Hey Clarence.

I am also a novice and have joined up at the same time as you have.

Best of luck with that project of yours!
Cheers!

Welcome to the forum. Hope you find someone that does not mind a pair of watchful eyes. Meanwhile I see that you have posted in the carving section and getting some replies do post updates on your progress.

Thanks everyone, I have bought a beginner's pack from Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers as well as an elephant roughout in case I run out of time. The beginners pack comes with a knife, gouges, strop and a book.

Sounds like a more useful hobby than putting blue leds in Nokia's :)
