This hasn't been done for awhile. How about sharing photos your dog(s).
Thus I present Skipper - house dog, cat stirrer, steady on his paws in a boat and a belief that cuddles come before everything.

This is Joney, a greyhound. aka Ashigga Melody
http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i=629671.
We've adopted here after her retirement from the barbaric sport of greyhound racing. She's now enjoying life as a normal dog and basically being a 60km couch potato. Unfortunately, most of her kind bite a bullet after they stop winning.
Never barks, walks perfectly on a lead, doesnt smell, can only handle a 10minute walk and is completely docile and gentle. Most people have terrible misconceptions about the breed which is a shame as they make much better city pets than bloody border collies, kelpies, and other working dogs or assorted yappy things.

cuddles come before everything.
a) never admit to owning a dog smaller than a border collie,
b) NEVER admit to being a spaniel lover - as does SilentC :D
c) Never admit to saying the above with respect to a non human, we'll have to start calling you Micheal Jackson!!! :D
alas I dont have a dog, R.I.P Bazzil.

This is Jet and his retarded buddy Mini. Sadly Jet will not becoming to Aus. I just can't risk the travel and quarantine messing up his mind; he doesn't do well with strangers. So he'll be going to a new home in May, thankfully it's people that he knows and likes.
Sometimes when I go to bed late at night between him, the 2 cats and Michele (my wife) there is no room on the bed for me so I have to sleep on the couch :D.

The Corgi is a Cardigan, hence the tail, her name is Sally, 40kg of docile blubber and a titanium back leg, loves eating and sleeping and snores loudly, the Min Foxy is Tricksy (right), an irritating little bastard that leaps all over everyone and the other is Fred who is a something crossed with something else who wandered in at our BBQ for JOW104 and never left despite notices being puit up everywhere.
He has a large cluster under his tail which is dissapearing soon.
Both look guilty and are tied up as they thought it would be fun to chase the horses...............................and got caught.
Both were waiting for a hiding I suspect which never happened, but the agony of the wait :D :D :D

Because rotties, dobes and G.Sheps bark all day, carry on like pork chops and need an hour of walking everyday and can't even be trained to clip their own mustachio.

What is it with dogs and modesty? Skipper is currently showing everything to the world. Must be comfy.
One of the many dogs I've owned was Sheila (coz she was a cocky little australian *****). A neighbour's cat used to love our front yard, so I let Sheila out one day. Woof, woof, woof. Up the street they went. Into someone's back yard. She came out with a huge grin ... reeking of cat urine  I guess she must have caught it. We never saw the cat again. Tough as old boots that dog, and the laziest mutt I've ever owned.

Well, they're not dogs but they're the closest thing I've got to add to this thread ;) Meet our two Norwegian Forest Cats ... Rufus (orange) & NiBo (grey).
If you're looking for a cat you can keep indoors at all times get yourself one (or two) of these :) They're not cheap but they're the most amazing cats we've ever owned. A couple of genuine sooks with an amazingly intelligent & gentle nature ... they do have a tendancy to leave a LOT of fur everywhere though. We have tumbleweeds of fur rolling around our house most of the year ... and I'm not kidding !
Wouldn't swap them for the world tho :) No way !

PS. Notice even European cats know how to pick THE BEST beer in the world !

Iain, I still find it very funny, I love it. :D
While we are talking about cats again I had a mature conversation with my father-in-law last week.
It was Good Friday and we were watching TV after dinner. Then their 16yr old cat came and sat next to them.
Feeling a little bit irritated so I said to him “Steve, why did God create cats?”
“Well, to keep the number of rats down.” He said.
A moment later he said to me “Scott, why did God create Chinese?”
“To keep the number of cats down.” :D
And we both had a little giggle.

Reminds me of a news event that exploded here in Canada. It's no secret that in China they eat cats and dogs - so what the frogs (what I call french) eat horses... So some enterprising Chinese fella starts using the pelts from the cats and dogs to make fur coats and then markets them in North America. Holy Crap! the SPCA and every other animal rights fanatic went balistic; called for boycotts, people were demonstrating in front of the stores, threats of fire bombing... I thought it was hilarious, when news guy holds up one of the coats and sure enough it was a calico cat fur coat.
So it's all right to slaughter billions of Mink, Sable, Links, Harp Seal pups, Fox and in-numerable other fur bearing creatures, skin them and throw the rest away but don't you dare touch a dog or cat.
Iain, I still find it very funny, I love it. :D

First of all I would like to let you know that I have never tasted dog meat and cat meat (OK a small piece of dog when I was 10  ).
Is it wrong to eat cats and dogs in China? Well, when you have more than a billion people to feed you will eat whatever is available. We don’t waste food either and that’s why we eat every bit of the animals.
Why is eating dogs and cats any different from eating pork, beef, chicken, kangaroo, crocodile etc?

Humans domesticated animnals for a number of reasons, primarily:
Work - eg horses, etc
Food - eg chicken, cattle, pigs, etc
Pets - eg dogs, cats, etc
Commodities - eg wool, etc
Generally speaking we only eat animals that were domesticated for food purposes. We somtimes eat non domesticated animals (eg kangaroo, etc) but this is quite rare (no pun intended).

Didn't your parents tell you not to bolt your food??? The first couple of times I didn't taste them either, it was so good the food barely touched the sides of my mouth on the way down!
The best of the pad-footed variety of food IMHO I have eaten was when I was in the hills in Hainan eating a superb meat dish, which my friend described with a puzzled experssion as "not the dog" (which was a bit of a relief I suppose).
A few months later we were in a big department store in Shanghai when he raced me up to the art supply section all excited, picked up a brush and pointed "this is the hair of the not the dog!!" - FOX!!
Not bad....
Come up anytime for a bit of cat, although they are disappearing from our neighbourhood....
Cheers,

I ate Chicken Feet once at a 'real' Chinese restaurant ('real' as in the staff couldn't speak any English whatsoever). It wasn't bad but I probably wont have it again. You basically put what looks like a fried babys hand into your mouth (fingers first) then chew on it and spit out all the small bones & 'knuckle' bits etc. Sounds absolutely foul I know but it honestly wasn't too bad.
Nothing like making use of the WHOLE animal instead of wasting most of it like us 'Westerners' seem to do. I can't stomach Brians, Tongue, Tripe or any of that 1940/50's 'depression' type food tho ... ew. Maybe that's what's wrong with me ;)

Hmmm, not quite sure I'm with you there. The frogs eat horse, as Mat quite rightly points out. People have cows, sheep and chickens as pets. They also use cows (bullocks) to pull carts etc. Some people eat elephant meat, others use them to cart loads and as transport. I don't think you can generalise too much. Humans will eat just about anything, starving or not. Some of the stuff I've seen on menus puts me right off. Who in their right mind would eat a chicken's foot? Over a billion Chinese would!

I agree to all of the exceptions you mention but I'll emphasise the "Generally speaking" part of my note. People may have sheep etc as pets but they were primarily domesticated for food, which is why people don't mind eating them and subsequently it would be as odd to keep a sheep as a pet as it would be to eat a horse. Dogs were primarily domesticated as pets, which makes it less acceptable to eat them. Alpacas were domesticated for wool and you may think twice before eating one, whereas sheep were domesticated for both food and wool, so eating them isn't a problem.
Also, different cultures domesticated animals for different reasons and therefore have different expectations of what is the right thing to do with each animal.
And you probably eat the "lesser" bits of animals more than you think - in sausages and pies etc.
And of the course the French are the French.

Why is eating dogs and cats any different from eating pork, beef, chicken, kangaroo, crocodile etc?
IMO there is no difference, all animals are there to be eaten. It all depends on cultural differences and availability as to whether an animal is treated as a pet or a source of food.
The only thing of concern should be that there is no cruelty in the killing of them. Except for cats of course. :D :D :D

When I was in PNG we used to chopper fresh food supplies to an outcamp every week, including fresh meat. The locals working at the camp promptly established a barter system, where they traded the fresh meat for the favours of the local village maidens. They still had fresh meat - there was always a smoke fire going with half a dozen flying foxes being readied for dinner. (And yes, it tastes like chicken - doesn't everything? :D )

as you get taller you will have to get a bigger dog. inverse square rule (ie if you have a pooffy dawg then the chicks wont want to "have you" : They'll think your a square and rule you out, thus you'll have to inverse youself - best off with either an exotic or a he-man dawg) CAN I suggest a GSD or shar-pei or Dalmation - chicks dig spots on the dawg rather than you ...? ) I understand that SilentC has experience with Spaniels.
