Ammonia 0.880 [Archive] - Renovate Forums

Hi Guys
Does anyone know the Australian equivalent of “0.880 Ammonia”,
I have recently been reading a UK published book on French polishing. The authors describe using this concentration of ammonia throughout the book for a number of uses including hand cleaning.
The Furniture Finishing Lidcombe TAFE Course I am currently undertaking uses ammonia 25% for fuming. Does this equate?

The 0.880 refers to the specific gravity or density of 100% Ammonia. so I assume the Ammonia 25% is a diluted form.

880 ammonia is about 35% by mass so 25% is somewhat weaker.

Highly concentrated ammonia can be a little on the dangerous side.

There are good uses for it like fumeing and such.

BUT I would be looking for safer alternatived where available.......for hand washing cutrus bassed hand cleaners are a great thing a shift all soorts of stuff without ripping the oils out of ya skinn or promoting the transfer of toxins across the skin barrier.

I'm using Septone, Citriscrub, at the moment and it is a good thing.....shifts most finish prodicts and even partly cured epoxy and poly resins......the pummace helps.

Soundman, totally agree with you regarding the dangers of conc ammonia, it can be pretty nasty stuff especially to the eyes and respiratory system. BTW for removing resins / epoxy from the hands Eliminator from Septone is even better then the Citra Scrub. (Declaration : I work for them)
