I scored myself a very nicely carved, solid Camphor wood chest. But some one in it's past painted it white! :o And then blue!!

Time to work on it's not an issue. But what's the best way to rid it of the paint layers? Do I need to know what type of paint it is first?

Any advise appreciated.

Just bumping this up again ....

Been looking at chemical paint strippers but really don't want to wreck the details in the carving and as I've never stripped paint back before just want to play it safe....

Might be a good idea to do a search through the forums for this one,...somewhere in my brain is remembering reading a thread about this and talking about the paint removal systems avaiable. From memory they are effective,..I hope so as I have a painted piece of furniture that requires attention as well! Salstrip rings a bell,..maybe,..should be found with a search.

Hope this helps
