Little known fact about Bunnings.
If you buy a Bolt a nut and a washer from Bunnings, you'll get charged for three sererate items.
Be aware that if you buy bolts, the nuts and washers for them are FREE. Not knowing means they'll charge you for seperate items.
I've been buying these for years and just found out recently.
I was told it's not something they tell everyone.
Just a heads up.

The shelf label for bolts(in Bunnings) normally states as 'Bolt & Nut', and I have paid on this basis for some years. However, I have never seen a reference to the washer on the shelf label for bolts, so wouldn't have thought it was part of the package.

I have always found that the bolt and nut both fall under the price of the bolt alone and the washer is charged separately. To make sure I get the right sizes I always place the nut on each bolt before going to the register which is more about making sure that the nuts haven't been thrown in the wrong bin more than anything else.

The nut has its own price if you want to buy them individually or buy two for a single bolt.

I have quickly found however that it is much cheaper buying in bulk from other places than the large hardware stores. I have just picked up 100x 1/4" bolts and nuts for about a 1/3rd of the price of the larger hardware stores. Given I only need about 30 or so for the current project that leaves the other 70 which I basically got for free (if I had of only purchased the required number from the hardware) which are extremely handy just to have on hand. Going down this path means you have to buy in larger quantities (50, 100 or 200) however they don't expire and there is nothing better than getting half way through a project and not having to run out for more.

Sorry, they are and now I've tested that a number of times.
A bolt's nut/s AND washer/s are free. I'm assuming of course that this is a policy at all Bunnings stores, my store is at Taylors Lakes (Melbourne).

Please understand I'm not trying to bag Bunnings, I've shopped there for years and the service and friendly staff have been exceptional. This all came about when trying to purchase 10 bolts and nuts and ten washers but declined to pay 32 cents each for the washers when I was then told that the bolts and nuts and washer/s came with the price of the bolts. My post was just a heads up for those here that didn't know.

Well, haven't I got egg on my face. Since some disagreed with my claim about the nuts and washers I decided to go ask the manager of that department and this is my lost post on the topic.
It appears now that the washers and nuts are seperate units. The guys and gals on the registers just don't know. Some will charge the bolt, washer & nut as one unit therefore only charge you for the bolt and others don't.
Some bolts come with a nut as one unit and some with no nut but never a washer! It all depends on the brand and even then you're not assured of getting the items as one unit.
Who can you trust if not the staff for correct information.
In short, I was wrong and now feeling pretty foolish for posting the first place, my apologies guys.
Fortunately, I love eggs and having it on my face, well, saves a plate!

Btw when I buy single bolts and nuts of a size I don't already have I screw the nut on the bolt and don't pay for the nut.

One of life's great hardware mysteries I guess.

As for correct information from staff - that's somewhat debatable? I did once get the name of an alternative cheaper supplier from an old guy at the special orders desk.

It may depend on who serves you. The nuts are unlikely to have a bar code on them. Now if the person at the register does not enter them separately then they will be included with the bolt. Put one nut on each bolt you purchase (this way you check threads and size) and see what happens. Be prepared to pay for the nuts, but if you are not charged you have presented them for payment.
