Hi all,

I'm after some pure tung oil and the closest thing the local stores sell is the Feast Watson China Oil. Does anyone know where I can get hold of some pure stuff in the Sydney/Illawarra region?

Thanks

google is your friend. ;)

It usually is. Sorry, I should probably be a bit more specific  I'm more after places south of Sydney or close to the city - Carbatec is a bit far west for me and Mona Vale is a bit of a hike from near south of Wollongong. Carbatec wouldn't be so bad but travel costs would start adding up on top of $38 for a litre of the organoil

China oil is an alternative name to tung oil, but I was under the impression that the Feast Watson one wasn't pure.
According to the MSDS, there's a few other things in it. Assuming I've looked at the right one that is

Hello Iwieldthespade,
I bought some recently from The Woodworks (in Sydney). They can post to you. It is pure tung oil. You can also buy wood oil, but I think the ingredients are slightly different and it is probably known as china oil. anyways try them. It aint cheap. Drillit.

Hi Fly..
Feast Watson's tung oil is not "pure" there are those added ingredients that are "trade secret" but after seeing your post, rang them up as I would have been most surprised if it was really "pure".
Pure, tung oil is used a lot as a drying agent for many products but does not have much body to it.

Thats what they told me when I rang,
They used to sell stuff labeled as pure tung oil. I rang to ask where I could get some and they told me it was just re badged to china wood oil. They have changed their packaging labels/colours etc recently.

What did you end up buying?

I got some from Trend Timbers at last years Sydney wood show.

What did you end up buying?

Well... some U-Beaut hard shellac actually :U. The sale price at the Sydney wood show was too good to pass up, and it seemed to suit my application a bit better than oil
