I'm trying to embed a Youtube video, but when I cut and paste the following code, it just displays as a line of code when I preview the post. Can someone point me in the right direction please?
<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/g1_PDwWtQQM?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/g1_PDwWtQQM?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

All you have to do is insert the link to the Youtube video, no code is needed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lZ1FZVM40wfor example.

Don't paste the embedding code.
Just copy and paste the page URL from the address bar.

Thanks Geoff. Yeah, but I wanted to have the first frame if the vid in the post, because it looks a bit more interesting.

Thanks DJ, but Hmmm. When I paste the following (copied the url) without the spaces
http : // w ww.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=g1_PDwWtQQM
I get this:

Do you have Display Images set in your user profile?
It's under Options -> Thread Display Options

As per DJs instructions
(compare your URL code with that in DJs code box)

Try using the URL that I've posted in the code box in my post above without the "feature=endscreen&NR=1&" bit in it.

It's under Options -> Thread Display Options I must have Geoff (I will check) because I can see DJ's and Fred's image. Checked, and ok.
Fred, DJ, yes I spotted that difference as soon as I posted, so I guess you gotta know to take that bit out. Problem is, I'll forget that by the next time I do it!
Let's see what this does.

Well that's just bloddy bizarre. Before editing, the previous post just had "blah, blah" and linked to youtube. Then I edited from "Oh Man" onwards, repasted the link, and now they're both displaying the image.
What have you been seeing?????

It just had the underlined link, not the first screen of Youtube, now there are 2 Youtube screens.
You been hitting the red Brett?:D

You been hitting the red Brett?:D Well, no, actually, it's only 5.40. I've always taken my lead from the Major in Fawlty, and 6 O'clock it is (well today anyway)
Anyway, thanks for your input chaps. Still bloody bizarre though.

I've also found on some vbulletin forums you can't use the quick reply to insert video links.. must use the 'go advanced' reply.

Links taking you to a Youtube video can carry other info across to them.
For example, if you are watching in a small window that is part of a web page and click on the Watch in Youtube option, it will convey the time-point you have reached in the video so that you continue to watch 'seamlessly'. This info is all dumped into the URL.
But the forum wants a simple format ... as you've seen ... of:
ht tp://w ww.youtube.com/watch?v= xxxxxxxxxxx
Cheers,
Paul.
