View Full Version : Where is the water cannon?

It seems pathetic that there are riots three nights running in Sydney, and all the cops can do is stand in line waiting for the Molotov cocktails to be lobbed at them. Don't they have any water cannon in Sydney? And why are only two or three people out of the mob arrested?

It IS pathetic, but it's the outcome of a government who want to pander to the snivel libitarians, human rights activists and completely gutless judges and magistrates who don't live in the real world, as well as a community attitude that kids don't need to be accountable for their actions but are entitled to do just as they want while being paid not to work from MY taxes.

Government should repeal all the laws allowing people to blame others for their greed or stupidity, allow the coppers to belt a young hoodlum under the ear or kick his backside 'till his nose bleeds and then have the expectation that his old man will do the same when they sling him in the door of the family home.

Ranting terminated as I might get nasty if I continue.

I and many that I have discussed this issue with do agree, that the police are being too tolerant of these hoods, and should be able to use physical means to subdue and terminate the riot. Dan may be able to enlighten us on the reasons why the Police cannot respond with force even when they are taking casulties.

Seems to be just a general deterioation in our society. I first noticed it when I found out that parents started demanding that schools and teachers were solely responsible for the education and disciplining of their children. What are the parents supposed to be doing?????

A kick in the **** is most likey a good solution, but as we have seen, some in authority in the past have gone a little too far. You can't regulate this sort of attitude, so they made a law which banned these sorts of activities.

My Brother-in-Law is a copper, and the stories I hear about the dregs of society he has to deal with, they make you hair curl.....and if he uses slighlty too much force when arresting some dill (we're talking a bruised wrist or strained ankle) he has to justify every single action or face the sack!

We get the society we deserve.

Okay, I'll bite. I don't watch tv or get the paper and my ISP homepage has no mention of riots in Sydney. (they mention Togo, though). So what's got the concerned citizens um.. concerned?

This isn't some bizarre board timewarp, where this is really about Redfern ages ago is it? Sometimes this happens to me. No, I won't explain.

Wondering,

It's about three hoods in a stolen car, who crashed it running away from the cops, the driver legged it after killing his two mates and it's all the coppers' fault!

Maybe the Israelis have Rocker's water cannons? Okay, I found a short description of events from the SMH. I think I'll stay out until I have something intelligent to add. (Don't hold your breath).

[QUOTE=graemet]as well as a community attitude that kids don't need to be accountable for their actions but are entitled to do just as they want while being paid not to work.

Unfortunately an all too common problem. It saddens me to see so many kids who have little or no respect for their community and society they live in. The same kids tend to be the ones who perform badly at school, get led into crime easily, have low vocabulary and intelligence, hang about etc etc a very common sight in almost every town and city. Oddly enough ive never witnessed this in the far east in particular japan, korea, and china/hong kong where although there is crime its not usually of this nature.
My own belief is that such kids generally mirror their parents who dont know how or dont wish to introduce proper training and discipline into the responsible task of raising them. This is not helped by the education systems which although excellent do not have any real form of punitive punishment available to them, and of course the police, whose hands are pretty much tied when it comes to dealing with them. The law almost encourages them to behave in any manner they wish and social services seldom report such behaviour but seem to want to blame it on underprivilege and abuse which may of course be the cause in some instances.
It is a very serious issue and one that does not have an easy or straightforward solution but I firmly believe that if any child is taught correctly from a very early age by the parents how to behave, respect others and, recognise right from wrong, then the problem would be significantly reduced. Sadly this would take generations now unless laws are changed. . Maybe conscription would help, either army or civil police?
Sorry to go on but I do feel very strongly about this. If the kids today dont know, then the kids tomorrow certainly wont and thats one hell of a downward spiral to contemplate. Society today certainly seems to promote the "wealth is power" measure of success but as we old farts know, thats not what its about. Lets all pass our wisdom down the line.

In times passed; they had wars and these f**kwits were used as cannon fodder.
Sent to the front line and let the enemy use their ammo supplies on the "under achievers". Either that or get over-run themselves.

Harsh; but effective. Those that survived appeared to lift their game a bit as well.

I have to agree about the softc**cks (if they have one) that are in power here now. Why the hell do the decent people in the community have to bear the brunt of these riots. Why can't the battle zones be redirected into their communities and then we would see how long it is before they had a change of mind.

Consider the possum stirred.

Hi all

I have been a copper for seventeen years and the biggest problem (IMO)is occurring at macquarie fields and occurred earlier at redfern is the deployment of the tactical response groups.

I was at the parliament house riots with the unionists, AIDEX riots back in the late 80's that went for 3 days full on and have worked the niteclub beats on and off as well as general duties.

The biggest problem with the deployment of TRG is that it gives a focus for the anger in one point and as they are equipped with shields and protective gear they take a heap of **** from the protagonists. It then becomes a game for them as each tries to get braver and throw the largest brick and do the most damage.

Eventually the coppers start to get hurt and then they charge and lock a few up and things calm down a bit until the egos come back and it starts again.

In effect we are causing the problem by having the TRG there. TRG are great at organised demos as both sides generally have an understanding of the game.

In the macquarie fields problem the TRG needs to be withdrawn to a nearby location and life be given a chance to return to normal. If it doesnt and patrols need to go back then you send in experienced, hard and seasoned coppers to deal with the issue immediately and take the fight up to any that stand up. If they stand up they get knocked down and locked up. trust me we dont need water canon, shields or anything else.....just batons, capsicum spray and braun.

50 or so hard experienced coppers would have this sorted quick smart. One thing that most people dont realise is that most coppers love a blue. Just keep pouring in blue until its stopped.

Believe me that as soon as one copper calls for assistance on the radio every cop in sydney will head that way.

getting hurt is part of the job and the one thing that a good fight does is bring us together and improve moral. There is nothing better as a team than to back each other up and fight till the fights over.

And yes some will get hurt but thats the job.

Here is a qoute that I heard at a riot with a group of professional protesters (lunatic green anti forest anti man anti world)

Protester: "Why dont you police go home, your only here because your being paid"

Copper: " Darling we'd come here and bash you C****s for nothing!"

My 2c worth.

I'm with Dazzler for the most part.

I think that they are right to have called in the TRG. But they are not right in making them stand there and take the s.hit that they are. In the street if someone came at you in a way that threatened your life, you are justified in using lethal force. In a demo/crowd control situation, they send you in with basically nothing but a baton. These dogs are using molotov cocktails for christ sakes. They should be met with a strong show of force which makes them question their reason for being there.

Police are well equipped to deal with this sort of rubbish. We have shields, helmets, guns that shoot bean bag pellets, and so on and so on. It's some pathetic officer sitting in his office miles away who makes a decision if they are deployed. His/her main concern is whether or not we might get sued. Which we will whether we use force or not.

I watched on the news tonight, coppers standing there while people walked up to them and threw bricks, cocktails, timber and various other missiles at them from VERY close range. Well within range of OC foam. Did they get sprayed? NO. Did they have any fear of the consequences of their actions? NO. Why? BECAUSE THEY KNOW THERE WILL BE NO CONSEQUENCES.

When someone walks to three of four matres away from a shield wall with a missile in hand he should be sprayed then arrested. FULL STOP. If someone walks to within ten metres of a shield wall with a molotov cocktail in hand, he should be shot with a bean bag, then arrested. FULL STOP. Large congregations of violent people should be disbursed with water cannons if possible, if not then at the least with baton charges.

I have to disagree with dazzler that getting hurt is part of the job. I'm not there to be anyone's target. Some will get hurt, but if a copper gets hurt, the offender should get hurt too. Not just stand there and cop it sweet like these ivory tower officers have us doing now.

I for one am sick to death of seeing my workmates getting a flogging and all they can do is stand there and take it. It should make anyone sick that your police officers are being made to be pathetically soft in the face of true danger so that we don't have to spend a few dollars defending ourselves in court.

I could say a lot more but would have a bit of work to do.

A little bit of Rock'n Roll will sort them out, :D I blame modern music for the troubles, it corrupts the mind and causes violence. I mean look at all the good wholesome music that was around when I was a young boke, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Neil Young...and the coloured girls sing... I had a real riot at an ACDC concert once:D

I feel very sorry for the innocent bystanders/property owners that always have to suffer this king of behaviour.

I don't envy those encharged with the responsibility of crowd control in these matters.

Dan and Dazzler,
Wouldn't have your job for quids but for what it is worth thanks for doing your job.
It is interesting that your operations people prefer Workers Comp claims than civil action.
I have two BIL's that have recently retired from long service in the force and both are unhappy about the way Policing has changed over the years.
Close all University Legal studies and perhaps in twenty years we might be able to do something sensible in these situations. :)

Not the shocking injuries from missiles that they are currently having.

DanP,

You're are getting a bit soft after that last birthday.:D "Bean bag pellets". Really?
What happened to the real deal; good old lead. I suppose OH&P won't let you near the stuff in case a little bit rubs off on someones skin.

Let's face it; Those plicks are trying to burn you ALIVE. And when they keep coming back with more molotovs; they are trying their damnest to kill you, and you can't convince me otherwise.
If they are prepared to kill you; it is only fair that they should be prepared for the same to happen to them.
What happened to the old "reading of the riot act" law. Is it still sitting under a pile of dust somewhere? From my memory(as poor as it is); once read; and anybody who has not dispersed after the nominated time (5 minutes or whatever) and who is hurt or killed has no recourse whatsoever. They have had their chance to leave the battle zone.

As to some of the weak-gutted judiciary; if they are not prepared to sentence them severely; maybe they should be required to undergo the full sentence themselves for aiding and abetting the offenders after the fact. In reality they are ensuring that the crooks gets away with as light a penality as possible.

Any do-gooders comments ??????? Let the flames begin from you; as by lunch tomorrow I have more pressing places to be and wont be on-line for posssibly some time anyway.

Too hard for you? remember; if you pick up a snake by the tail, it's going to bite you; grab it by the throat and at least you have been able to protect yourself. Goes for the sharp end/ blunt end of a chisel or anything else you wish to think of.

I think I will go and have my medicine now and get my breath back.:D

I currently work as a cop in sydney, on the nice beaches side tho. With all these riots etc that are going on, its just like the Redfern incident all over again. Some say Police should just leave them be, but it starts every time a Police vehicle drives down a particular street. If Police were to leave these surburbs and not patrol them then it would turn into even more of a hell hole. So Police must patrol them, and if they are going to be attacked with bricks etc then they should be able to protect themselves and use some force to arrest the attackers. If this means OC, Batons, Shields and a bit of muscle then so be it. But unfortunately it has got to the point were Police are unable to do anything. It is because of the soft people who make the decisions and legislation, they have never experienced a night out on the truck (paddy wagaon). Put some of the magistrates and pollies on a shift or two over there and then see what they have to say. I am sure a lot of parents would also be shocked as to what they lovely little offspring are getting upto. Magistrates, Pollies, Parents all need to wake up and support the Police. As an officer we are constanlty having to cover our **** in everything we do. Granted that some years back some Polcice may have gone overboard with violence etc, but these days it has reverted too far the opposite way, the crims no Police can't give them a touch up. There is no respect or fear of the police.

Even if they do get a water cannon, they will be very reluctant to use it for fear of being made out to be unfair on the crims by the media and certain community groups. The OSG need more support and be allowed to do there job properely not stand then and take it all. They need to do something as the Redefern incident was not long ago, now the MF incident, I wonder what the next one will be??? I am sure I won't have to wait lot to see.

Anyways my two cents. Everyone has an opinion.

This post is bringing all the coppers out of the woodwork ( )

When Nanna Nixon took over the reins of the Victoria Police, she had all her Officers go out to stations to "get in touch" with the troops, to "remember how it was" on the van etc. She herself went out to a station.

As usual, a fantastic idea, in theory. She went to a quiet station and answered the counter a couple of times. Took a lost property report, got a few happy snaps for the news, etc. NOT ONE of them went out in the van. They all sat in an office or went out with the station OIC for a leisurely drive around the neighbourhood. It's complete and utter bullsheet. If you want to get in touch, work a friday night in town, on the road, RESPONDING TO JOBS. Work ANY arvo shift in Dandenong, Frankston, Springvale, Footscray or Broadmeadows, RESPONDING TO JOBS.

I'd like to see one Officer have to deal with a domestic dispute utilising the new code of practice that THEY wrote and WE have to follow. I'd like to see one officer go one up into a pub brawl involving 30 - 40 people and deal with it without getting themselves beaten to a pulp, (however, I wouldn't mind them getting beaten either, it's a win/win). Just once I'd like an officer who has some idea what I have to go through each and every time I'm "on the van".

Again, stopping before has to wield the stick,

Dan

... and how do the police win here, with the Press Vultures setting them up so beautifully?

Don't chase the car, the kids wipe 'emselves out anyway, and there are questions asked.

Don't chase the car and let anyone get away with knocking off cars and the journo's report it to encourage more car theft.

If the Police don't fight back, they are made out to be ineffectual.

If they do, they are the bad guys or worse.

If they don't for the first three nights, then do, they are not only bad, but stupid for waiting.

This is a call for censorship!! MAKE the press report clearly and in an unbiased way.... let them tell us who the grub driving the car was, and that his dead mates were after all participating in a crime.

MAKE them publish photos of all the idiots on the streets with rocks and fire and identify who they are so that every potential jury member in the country will have no option but to be well appraised of what went on.

I just don't understand how the "public" can be outraged because someone was running away with property that didn't belong to them.... maybe all the outraged people should have to leave their cars unlocked with the keys in the ignition, so the poor defenceless (innocent) kids can borrow them whenever they like, thereby avoiding this whole thing in the first place.

Iain,

as posted before; I don't admit my priors. And no; that isn't the reason for the login. Had a senior moment at the time and couldn't think of anything that wasn't taken. Used part of the name of stud animals I used to breed.

I will go as far as to say that in a prior life though I have had the dubious pleasure of 1. having leaden whiteants come through doors at head
height,
2. physically crushed against a brick wall so tightly by a mob you could barely breath (swinging black rubber does help ease the crush)
3. crazy (extremely dangerous later on big time armed robber) lining up my gut with a garden fork with dirt & grass attached,
4 taken to by a mob high on booze & hooch(odds of 3 V 30) and then being picked up bodily and thrown in front of a moving semi.
5 coming across ten 3/4 caste whites in a vehicle about 60k's from assistance; one of whom was wanted for attempted murder. Luckily found their firearm so turned it on them when they took to us. This really p*ssed them off.
6. having to live protect your own kids at all times against the local drug dealer who had been disarmed on his way to carve up my toddlers.

The list goes on, but the memory has faded a bit. The ctrl-Z didn't help either.

I don't hate much in this world', but a***holes and ****heads like in these riots come close.

On a more pleasant note I noticed on tonights news that some of the poor unfortunates had been helped out with some emergency accommodation which has eased the overcrowding in the streets.:D

We should bring back National Service and have these young louts doing something worthwhile, if anything it will give them discipline. As we all know, young men have excess homonal activity and it needs and outlet. Todays society with all the crap going on with social engineering and trying to turn everyone into something they are not, the political correctness, the ease of obtaining the dole, drugs and pills and the media feeding us all kinds of BS which has nothing to do with everyday life. This does not excuse anyone from commiting a crime, it however indicates to me that society(?) has failed in a lot of areas. Education being one of them, parental guidance another and so on. The judicial system is apparently run by fools and greedy lawyers. The crap coming out on DVD's and CD's is also largley to blame for the state of our youth. No one wants to give them a kick up the ring because they are not allowed to. I was no angel, recall one day playing up in school and was rewarded with six cuts ( three each hand) I had trouble hanging onto my handlebars to ride home. On the way home we had to go past the cop shop, yeah, your right, the local cop spots me and drags me behind the cop shop for some light entertainment and sends me on the way. Had to walk. Got home late, the old man wanted to know why, told him what happened and copped another serve! I don't think I ever smart a***d the teacher again in all my school days.

I reckon the stocks are well overdue for a come back.

A bit of public ridicule ( and the odd rotten tomato ) at an early stage in a lad's ( and they are usually lads ) criminal career might do the trick for a fair proportion of them. They get slapped on the wrists when they get caught and they never really find out what the rest of us think of them. I reckon a couple of hours in the stocks should be a mandatory penalty for grafitti daubers.

And, whilst I have the utmost respect for police, there are police who have unlawfully killed people, dealt in drugs, embezzled funds etc. No section of society is immune to the vagaries of human nature, kids, police or even -and here I may cross the line - woodworkers!!

As for answers, no of course I don't have any - but a lot begins at home.

Hear Hear.

The police weren't there for their own enjoyment or fun, but to uphold law and order. They uphold law and order for us, the community, so that we can go about our own lawful business. These hooligans are not only attacking the police but the freedom of every citizen.

If this behaviour can go on unchecked what will they do next ?

This issue is not about what some policeman may or may not have done, it is about law and order. All I can say is " Thank God for the cops for without them there would be unchecked hooliganism."

Parole after 6 months for good behaviour.
Weekend leave.
Conjugal visits.
The crap from the do gooders never ends.
Shed a little tear and all is yours, my mum hated me, dad beat me, I was never popular at school so it's all your fault.
Unfortunately these mongrels view compassion as a weakness to be exploited.
Finally I shall come out of my shell, I was in the prison system for 20 years, not in uniform but involved in prosecutions etc, up until the late 80's I would put away up to 10 a week who didn't want to comply with parole, cba or whatever conditions, then the social workers got hold of it and all was OK, they wanted me to be compassionate, for christs sake I was the devils advocate watching each and every one of this dickheads, one foot out of line and bang, back in they went.
The system didn't like it, why, because it worked, they just lost the plot and I got out in 93, had a gutfull of poncy social workers whose idea of great conversation was working out in the office who was gay or straight.
Rant off.

I still find it hard to get my head round the idea that you have to carry your drivers licence with you. I'm forever swapping it from bag to bag (women's clothes tend to be short on pockets ) and leaving it behind. And what if I'm out driving in the company of a gentleman and don't have a bag at all ( my nan reckons you never need to carry money if you're travelling with a gentleman :D )! Or what if I'm not the one that's driving and my driver becomes incapacitated!

UK system is ( or at least was when I left ) that you get so many days ( 5 from memory ) to front up to the local police station with your licence. much more civilized ( but given the snow they are having at the moment I think civilization is sometimes overrated before SilentC has a go at me )

It's not the ticket that gets up my nose, it's more that when I walked out of the house after I picked up my licence and put it back down . I dont carry a wallet, so my licence and key card etc are all free wheeling and I only grab them when I need them. For some idiot reason I put the bugger back down before I left. The cop gave me a spiel about enforcing this law because they come across car accidents where they can't ID the bodies, I had to explain to him I wasn't cursing him just my stupid self

The cop gave me a spiel about enforcing this law because they come across car accidents where they can't ID the bodies

The drivers licence may be helpful in helping to identify a body but its hardly an essential

here's a few scenarios to consider

The driver is dead and has ID and his passengers ( who aren't required to carry ID ) are also dead - there are still dead bodies to identify.

A pedestrians ( doesn't have to carry ID) is the victim of a hit and run - you've got a dead body to identify.

The car goes up in smoke and the plastic ID has melted - you've got a dead body to identify.

A house goes up in smoke with the occupants in bed - you've got a dead body to identify.

The driver of the car has someone else's wallet and their drivers licence - you've just identified the WRONG person.

There are two dead women in the car and only one handbag on the floor - you've got a dead body to identify.

Assuming the car isn't nicked then its reasonable to assume that either the registered owner of the car is the dead body or the registered owner of the car knows who the dead body is.

And if the car is nicked then do we care who the dead body is anyway other than trying to find someone to save the state paying for the funeral?

Jackie,

Even if they are carrying a licence they need to be identified.

However. A person with a licence on them saves hours and possibly even days of investigation into the identity of the person. Meaning the persons
family can be notified soon after the fact. One of the first questions always asked to me by next of kin is, "why did it take so long to tell us" even if it's within an hour or two.

A person with someone elses licence on them is unlikely to be mis-identified, due to the picture on them.

If we get it wrong, it's going to be a bad day at the office, therefore, we make sure of the ID before delivering messages.

As to the rest of the 'what ifs' you posted, it's a good thing most people (90%+) carry some ID on them.

Dan

I fail to see the difference between breaking the law in not carrying a licence whilst driving or breaking the law for any other road traffic offence. Why should say not carrying a licence be any different. :(

Licences are only issued after you prove that you know the road laws which includes carrying the licence whilst driving.

What is so difficult with this. :(

There is a very simple and effective solution to riots like Redfern and the recent ones, and I can not think of the name of the place.

But I do not know why the politicians and the police have not thought of it before.

This solution would make everyone happy, the do-gooders,, the snivel Libbers, as Lawsy called them, everyone, even the thugs themselves.

Simple solutions are often missed and obviously this one has been missed also.

I can only assume that grief makes people totally unreasonable! I don't envy you one little bit having to break bad news, especially if people are going to have a go at you.

I would have expected that telling relatives the same day that you find out the identity of the victim would be pretty good work on the part of the police. If the victim lives on their own then it would be quite reasonable to expect a number of days to pass before relatives were located and informed.

For your sake I hope most people look more like their picture on their drivers licence than I do mine. My photo was redone a few months ago - the previous picture was way way way out of date yet VicRoads would have happily let me keep it.

Well rocker, someones got to fly the flag. Your observations are somewhat understated however, UK is the absolute pits of a place to live but I guess its what you get used to. Every place is a mix of good and bad unfortunately our mix is more weighted the wrong way. But hell Im not complaining it'll be spring soon and the rains and flooding will be with us, the birds are singin' and ive stopped wearing my thermal undies now, until May, when summer moves to Autumn and the golden leaves begin to fall, clogging up the drains. Im eagerly anticipating putting down the roof on the little roadster for a few days as the long term forecast is quite good for the summer, so that will be fun, fresh air(only 30% smog content) and the wind blowing through my hair, whats left of it anyway, makes you feel its good to be alive.
We may splash out this year and have a couple of days holiday in Skegness, we are quite well off so what the hell, a paddle in the sea, pie and chips on the promenade, its what memories are made of. I'll even post a couple of piccies for the forum.
I said we may have a holiday, but that depends on how much the quarterly gas bill is of course. I'm going back to see the relatives in a couple of weeks - I'm hoping the weather picks up a bit before I arrive as my mum isn't going to be too pleased if I stack her car on ice. My sister has apparently been saving some wallpaper stripping for me :) - very therapeutic stripping wallpaper - I'll probably need the therapy after tackling the traffic jams on the M25 again.

Footy?

We taliking Rugby (been beaten by Wales Scotland and Ireland recently haven't you?) or that nancy boy game we call soccer. :D
That was really insulting Craighttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon7.gif Im Scottish. How would you like it if I said Aussiie blokes were gentlemen,,, eh........exactly,,, not nice is it?
Any way Rugby's for poofters as well, stupid game, no rules and played by overweight monkies. Footy on the other hand, skill, finesse, brainpower, strategy, all the qualities required by the top athletes, thats what were talkin' about here.
No doubt about it footy is the game of all games, the creme de la creme of sport, and its BRITISH.http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon10.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon10.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon10.gif

Now I know that all of you webbies and the surfers and the likes will be frantically checkin out the origins of the British game Soccer and youll be coming back with things like

" invented by Mongols kicking decapitated heads around" or " Red indians kicking stuffed animal skins and the likes"

Dont waste your time guys. We invented it. Its British, always has been always will be. We are footy, not the germans, not the brazilians, not the dutch, The BRITISH. In fact, its possible that Alex Ferguson is the reincarnation of the guy that actually invented it so that would mean ,,,,,yes ,,,its Scottish. God Im getting wet again.

My brother loves soccer but I reckon its boring as.

Wouldnt it be great if they didnt have goalies and the field was shaped like a triangle and there were three teams playing at once!

cool!

Don't pick on football/soccer. After what I've paid this year in club fees and equiptment so me lad can play, it's gotta be the duck's guts. I can't believe pre-season training started the first week of school and he has his first trial game next week. Hell, he hasn't even finished the cricket season yet. For the next couple of months I'll have cricket on saturday and soccer on sunday, with one session of cricket training and two of soccer during the week. No wonder the kid's fit. I'm just exhausted.

Cheers

As a postscript to my earlier post regarding police et al, I am sure most of you will be happy to know that I just got a $78 fine for not carrying my licence (less than 24 hours after ragging on the feds) - teach me to have a pussy opinion. The karma police are at work!!
Hey namtrak,

I used to knock people off for no licence to get my quota up, , or was that to raise revenue......damn I forget which now;)

cheers

Australian Rules
aka arial ping pong where the players are so inept and unskilled that they have an additional set of goal posts and get awarded points for almost scoring a goal.
They are big but not tough, just oversensitive little souls who have tantrums when they nearly scored, hence the additional set.
God I hate football.....................
