Hi,
I have a new staircase installed, with a wooden banister (brushbox). We have floors just completed in brushbox also, and while they are now finished the stair banisters are still raw. I wanted to seek advice on the best ways to finish them - and am a little confused about staining/varnishing versus an oiling process.
Our floors are satin finish, so want to keep to low sheen. Am I able to do an oiling and keep the natural colours or do i need to stain first?
Im in a coastal spot so there is also the issue of salt, though guessing any of the finishes will suffice in that respect.
Appreciate any guidance, and whereas I'd normally hit the hardware shop and do a stain/varnish Im worried I will spoil the natural wood!
Thanks!
