I turned my very first bowl today, and would like to know how most people sign their work. Do you use a pyrography tool, or simply a felt-tip pen etc? and if pyrography, is it done before or after final polish?

I asked this very same question a year or so ago and received some fantastic replies.

Since then I've purchased a branding iron from Martin at Art Design Make (http://artdesignmake.com.au/).

Thanks. I presume that you can either hot brand (burn) and also press the timber for an impression?

If you look at that image there are three impressions made with the one iron, the bottom impression is cold branded (pushed). Branding cold on hardwood is pretty much a no go. When I use it I heat it up pretty hot and then brand a piece of scrap till I think I've got the right branding temperature.
