View Full Version : SDHC card locked. How to unlock?

I went to take some photos this morning and when I turned the camera on, I received the message "Card Locked".

I sometimes inadvertently lock it when inserting it into the camera, so I popped it out, but the little locking slider has disappeared! Is there any way of unlocking the card or otherwise retrieving the contents?

You should be able to retrieve the contents. The locking stops you deleting or adding but getting the photo's off should be whatever you do now. Either cable or if you have a card reader in your PC. They are so cheap now, I'd get your pictures off this one and ditch it, go get a new one after that.
If you have any troubles, PM me as I am also in melbourne.

 You mean a delay due to technical issues are sorted until we can follow more of the journey in the build of the knee-hole desk? Bugger.

:doh:Of course, I can still read the card if I stick it in the puter. I'll save the images on the HDD. I don't want to risk the sticky-tape 'fix', so a new card is already on its way.

I swiped the card out of the missus' camera and we're back on track!

I'd be less worried about the sticky tape and more worried about just where the plastic slide went

In retrospect, I did 'sense' something falling when I removed the card from the camera the last time I used it, but it didn't really register with me.

Your original question was and I quote
"Is there any way of unlocking the card or otherwise retrieving the contents?"
If you knew you could read the card why ask how to retrieve the contents?
With regard to the unlocking I suggested a new card.

Not happy with my answers because they are obvious!
why did you ask in the first place!!

No pleasing some people....

The clue was in the "DOH!" smilie – – which represented the moment I realised I could read the card.

Admittedly, it might have been clearer if I had posted ":doh:Of course! I can still read the card if I stick it in the puter."

Also, as I posted previously, I did take your advice and purchased a new card on-line this morning.

Thank you for your valued advise and exceedingly kind offer. http://www.woodworkforums.com/members/13149-woodwould/albums/woodwould-s-smilies-1/2693-flowers.gif

Hi Woodwould,
The reason I said read the card and 'copy' is I have a friend who had same trouble with his. He used the software that came with his camera and it won't do a copy of the pictures, It 'moves' them. So it the cards locked he can't get the pictures off the camera. Your a lot smarter and knew how to copy them off. My friend would not be able to load the card as a removable drive to even get them off.

OK glad we got it all fixed and your happy again.

All the best,
happy snapping.

On SWMBO camera, I just took the card to the PC and uploaded the pictures and then deleted them.

Don't know if that might help here.
