just a little car story

somewhere the question was raised why people don't like tradies. Well, here is a nice little story:
Friend bought a car with replaced engine. Day 2: clutch needs to be replaced. Day 4 new v-belt. Day 6: engine overheats. Reason: fan blows wrong way around, back trough the radiator.
Question 1 is simple: If I bother to put in a new engine, wouldn't that be things I'd check just then? Luckily was all covered under warranty. And lucky he was just driving around town, not into the bush.
Question 2: can't I use trained monkeys, same outcome, but cheaper?
