The shop stayed open for just 30 minutes because of safety fears at the store in Edmonton, north London.

Five people were taken to hospital, one with chest pains, and up to 20 suffered from heat exhaustion.

Police said the stabbing of a man, in his 20s, near the store at about 0130 GMT was unrelated. He was also taken to hospital where his condition is stable.



Ikea said its flagship store, the biggest in England, had to close because of an "unforeseen volume of customers".

Sounds similar to a shop they opened in Sydney recently where they apparently were giving a car away to a random visitor to the store.

Wonder if that would happen here if Bunnies ever reduced their prices...

a friend of mine had a holiday job at Marks and Spencers on the checkout in the food hall. christmas eve morning there was a massive queue outside the door well before store opening of housewives wanting the ready prepared fresh turkeys for their christmas dinner next day.

As soon as the doors opened it was apparently a stampede ( with no hold barred and no quarter given ) through the clothes section to the food hall at the back of the store. The race winners were rewarded not only with their turkey and the despair of the losers but by a round of applause from those manning the tills.

Gee, imagine the excitement at being given the wrong advice on the wrong tool at a price that's closer to the opposition ... if they have it in stock that is, but they'll have to check out back to see. :p
