Painting Sash Windows

I've just replaced aluminium sliders with wood sash windows in keeping with the age of the house.The upper half of the window is static and only the lower half can slide up. So, how can I paint the frames where the two halves over lap? i.e. the outer part of the lower half and the inner part of the upper half. I have 8 windows to do.Any advice would be appreciated.

Take out the lower half, paint both halves, allow sufficient drying time, put the lower half back.

I've got to paint my sash windows soon. Oil based paint takes longer to dry but is a bit harder wearing than water based paint. Anyone got opinions on the best paint to use for the job?

Don't use water based paints as they will stick, oil based is the only option.

Sand well between coats and leave a long time to dry

I agree with Simon
Have used oil based paint on our double hung sash windows over the past 30 odd years without any problems.
Just open them a day or so after painting to prevent them sticking permanently.
