Hi, my first thread.
I have recently completed my first big project in an eight by four foot silky oak/slate pool table. trouble is the finish hasn't come up as smooth as i would like, it is finished with a cabots satin varnish. i am wondering if there is some techniques i can use to smooth it out. cheers.

I could be a bit light on the sand/varnish bit though.....

yeah i was afraid that would be the answer, the table is a bit of a pain the way it all goes together which makes it hard to sand and varnish without possibly affecting the cloth, but i will give it a go. thanks for the info, probably one of the easiest questions you will have to answer.
thanks again

Hi I'm new to the forum, But I'm not new to woodworking.
Wood and wood craft if you like has been a hobby of mine for the last 20 years at least.
The mastersplinter has told you the truth. There are no real shortcuts to finishing.
However as I've gotten older I'm interested in shortcuts and lately I've been using a series of air brushed (medium to large size) and also a gravity feed spray gun for larger projects.
I've also been using Automotive 2 pack clear finish on wood with surprising results.
There are no real shortcuts
