I have let the quotes be altered but please don't don't do it any where else as it will destroy the credibility of all concerned.

Spoil Sport - just when we were getting warmed up too.

Cripes, closing a thread just because it was out of whack, off topic and totally devoid of any useful purpose except to amuse small minds ... like mine :D

Ah well, we'll just have to hijack this thread and spin in out.
But first we've got to nominate someone to pick on. The usual suspects are Peter R, Christopha or Zed. How about someone new this time? How about the Pakistani criket team?
And a topic to ignore - umm, their fantastic batting!

Now, a comment - isn't it remarkable the scores the Pakki's get with slow, steady batting. I mean, plodding along at about 4 runs an over, then whacking the total up to 280 odd with a few loose overs. It's just not ... cricket  (now 20/20, THAT's not cricket  ).

Wish I could close threads :( Talk about your ultimate in 'having the last word' :) , but I will never have moderator power :( .But only because i would abuse it and use it for evil instead of good

The rules for 20/20 are stupid.

I meen, a free hit if its a wide, they did that the other night, the ozzies got a free hit, swung at the ball and missed.
So he didnt get the free hit because he didnt hit it, all he got was a free swipe at the ball.
He should have been allowed to keep swiping until he actualy hit it, then he would have had his free hit.

20/20. It seems too biased towards the batsman and yet doesn't encourage good batting - just power hitting (you need lots of runs quickly and have to hit over the ring of batsmen). How soul destroying for a bowler, to only have four overs and to know that you'll be whacked everywhere. They could even the imballance a bit by allowing a bowler to bowl as much as his captain wants. And why the field restrictions? Good batsmen can score runs with any field so you don't need the restrictions. It looks like an attempt to take cricket and covert it into an instant gratification game.

But hey, all the same things were said about one day cricket and that's developed well. Hell, I've even paid good money to go watch the Windies get done by the Aussies next week. :D

I'm someone who doesn't think cricket is broken and hence believe that it doesn't need fixing. To introduce strange permutations of the game just to satisfy those who want the game over in their lunchtime is akin to asking soccer to use a pointy ball to encourage the aussie rules followers.

But I'm also someone who decries the current V8 super car series and its restriction to Fords and Holdens - I used to enjoy seeing the Jags and Mazdas and Comaros etc.

20/20 - I'm not at bah humbug status but it'll need to do a lot to convince me. Nor do I think its popularity in England justifies anything - they've proven for decades now that their cricket system doesn't produce good cricketers and this can only make that worse.

Ahh, five days sitting in the sun, watching the flannelled fools swat the leather. I remember those days ... before the Aussies starting ending matches on day three. Do you realise we've probably got players in our team who've never played a five day match?

Cheers
Richard

Nah, Sickly did them all on his own.

And Zed, how can you say that all cricket is crap? I played half an hour with son yesterday and that was pretty cool  ... except when the bugger hit me on the shins :( - he uses a hard ball and his hero is Brett Lee.

Years ago, back in the eighties when all you heard on public systems and answering machines was muzac, a mate of mine had a survey firm. The waiting room featured JJJ on the radio and had Penthouse among the magazines. He's filthy rich now.
