Hi All,
I, like a few others, are a little concerned about having this Smart Meter installed in our home.
By the sounds of it you have to keep an eye on this Thing, most of the time.
I'm not a Techno, & I would rather just keep my old one.

Can We say NO, to this Meter ?

I Worked, or better say was Employed by the Old S.E.C for 33 yrs. so I know a little about the goings on, but not on the Technical side of things, & times have changed.

Dunno if its compulsory in older homes but no doubt new installations would be high on the hit list to have them fitted day one.
Like you I have reservations on this smart meter, but in the short term we are not to be included or forced to keep one it seems

and would seem all is not well with them

We had one fitted several weeks after our solar panels were installed.
It was very pleasing to see the old meter happily turning backwards.
Since the new meter was installed I have no idea what is happening.
It has four different readigs on the display, what they represent no one can tell me.
Still wondering.:cool::doh:

Hi Bekky,
I'm told, if in your case the New S/M is not installed, & it is time to have your Meter read, they will ESTIMATE YOUR READING.
I've heard, The Estimates, could be way over, what it most likely should be.
Because your Old Meter is going Backwards, it is unreadable.

Most of this is hear say, but if you have read Nine Fingers note, then we have to be very careful.
I have now got a Sign in my Meter Box Stating ;

STOP
DO NOT FIT A SMART METER.
I DECLINE TO HAVE A " SMART METER " FITTED UNTIL
AFTER THE STATE GOVERNMENT HAS COMPLETED
THE SMART METER REVIEW.

This Sign was sent to me Via Email.
I have used Upper Case as that was how it was Printed.

Hi Folks,

I don't have a Smart Meter but if I did I would keep a close eye on it. I'd certainly look at it twice day first time when going past in the morning to unlock and feed the Dinosaurs and again at night when giving them their second feed and locking them up safely.

Cheers Old Pete

Consider a smart meter very carefully.

We have a friend who had a smart meter fitted when they had solar panels installed. And their health went down hill rapidly, to the point that they have had to live in their camper van. When they are away from their house for a few days, they get better. But when they go back home, they get sick.

Now they are seriously considering selling their house.

Well I have had solar for two years, soon after the panels were fitted they fitted a new meter, no one could tell me how the readings worked.::(( there was 8 numbers, then about 3 month ago they came and fitted the smart meter, this was because they were putting me on the 60 cents returning power to the grid.
With this meter it has 4 readings 1. is the time of day 2. is the date 3. is the power you use and 5. is the power that goes back into the grid.:)

Hi David,
So in your estimation, it seems to be worth it.

Like David we had the S/M since our panels where installed and only the 4 readings and no ill health at all, no power problems etc. A lot of the anti is hearsay or similar and to be so badly affected by a digital meter with radio waves? for transmitting the info??? obviously didn't have power lines near them and don't have wireless internet or mobile phones or other modern equipment.:?

There will always be a certain amount of hype and conspiracy talk whenever a govt body increases its power or appears to intrude in our personal lives.

Its generally based on how bloody useless some of them are and our total lack of trust in them. I vaguely remember a survey that put politians on a level of second hand salemen, trusting lot arent we?

As one senior labour member once quipped ' you can bank on self interest' . They often dont do much to dispel this lack of trust.

My smart meter has been in operation for the last two winter billing terms from March to September.
The solar system has reduced the power bill by a bit over 1/2.:):)
This is a 3kw system with 16 panels.
Regards Keith.

Hi Keith,
Well with 16 Panels, would that have cost you $5 - 6000 ?
You could get a lot of Power for that Money.
It would certainly see me out, & I don't plan to go out just yet ?
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I fail to see the wisdom in it.
Then again, it is horses for courses.

Hi All,
On Melbourne's Radio 3AW, at approx. 7.10am. this morning, a Lady let The Rumor File know about her situation with her Smart Meter.
It has now made the News Services every 1/2 hour.
Another chap rang later, on Neil Mitchell's Show, about how the Connection Screws were not tightened down & their lights would go on then go off, could have set fire to his home, had he not had a look, & was also an old SEC Worker.

In all fairness to The S/Meter, & the Meter Installers, their have been a few Electricians, who have not done their Job correctly, all those years ago, & when these people turn up to do their job they disrupt the Wiring, then you have a problem.
