Many here will know of David Charlesworth -- woodworking author, teacher, populariser of the "ruler thick"

However, you may not know that David was scheduled to speak and demonstrate at the recent Woodworking in America conference but withdrew at the last minute due to ill health.

The following, originally posted by Rob Cosman on WoodCentral, gives some background to David's illness:

David was teaching in Germany and during such was not feeling well. Was advised to go to the hospital but wanted instead to finish his class.
He got sicker and when he did go to the hospital, they admitted him and started the process of treating him. He was unable to breathe on his on, due to severe respitory illness.
As of October 6, David has been in Germany for 3 weeks and they are trying to get him well enough to transport him back to a hospital in England. Due to the seriousness of his illness, David's wife/partner Pat was summoned to Munich towards the end of September.

Rob Cosman's take on this is that David's illness has been a life or death situation for most of the time.

It is only in the past few days that David has started to come around to where they have him breathing on his on with the help of oxygen. He is very weak and confused. Pat is with him and now able to comunicate.

The WoodCentral community is trying to help relieve the financial burden, David like most of us needs to work. He derives his income from teaching and his DVDs and books. For those who don't know, online theft, illegal downloads, are destroying the instructional DVD and book business. Many in society we still don't think it is wrong to steal intellectual property.

You can help if you like by donating thru paypal to jklweb@lineone.net -- this is John Lovell, David's assistant -- the funds will go to David and Pat.
You can also help by purchasing David's books or DVDs thru his site www.davidcharlesworth.com (http://www.davidcharlesworth.com)

cheers
Rob
