The 32 AA Batteries?

Hi to all,
Well Aldi had those 6V. Torch Batteries for $ 2.99. Bought 2 = $6. Fine.
Have just pulled 1 apart. There were no 32 AA Batteries, but 4 D batteries.
These were over size, 83 x 31mm.
Now, maybe there are Batteries & Batteries, but these were not the ones I was hoping for.

They are " Ultracell " Super Heavy Duty, Made in China for Aldi.

As I have had a closer look, it tells me there are 4R25 6V.

So if you are going to buy this Battery, Have a closer LOOK.

They will not go to waste, as the G/ Children will use the opened 1, & I have a Dolphin Torch that may need a new one.

The old saying goes, you win some, you lose some.
So again have a good LOOK as you are about to buy.

Stands to reason, 32 AA bateries would have given you 32 x 1.5V = 48V

4 x D = 4 x 1.5V = 6V

block 4 in series gives 6v, now connect 8 blocks in parallel and 32 batteries = 6v with lots of current available

Connecting batteries in parallel results in power leakage due to battery variations and shorter life.

Don't have a problem with Chris' version, but there weren't 32 AA batteries were there?

So in your case 4x1.5V = 6V

The oversize 'D' cells are actually 'F' cells IIRC, like 'A' cells, not something you will find by themselves these days.

The usual problem with the 6 volt composite batteries is that they sit in a warehouse for months slowly discharging, and by the time you get them on the shelf in a retail store they are on their last legs. The organisations that use them in bulk like councils & QANGO's are the manufacturers main customers, get them direct and don't seem to have the problems with them dying.

It would be 'nice' if you could buy a plastic shell kit to assemble your own lantern batteries from 'AA's, like the single cell adapters you can get to use 'AA' rechargeables in 'D' cell appliances.

Many years ago (I think in the 80's) Mallory produced a 6V lantern battery in a plastic case. Pulled one of those apart after it died and put rechargable D cells in it. Worked quiet well.

Then the 6V SLA's came out. That's all I used in the Dolphin now. Current one has been in there for about 8 years.

You can float charge the SLA so it's never flat but cannnot do that with Nicd's.

The SLA fits in the Dolphin.

Sorry mate. On a more constructive note, have you looked around for a rezap. These battery chargers can charge just about any battery, rechargeable or not. I have one and they're great.
