Would you apply Danish oil before assembling a piece or after assembling the piece.
Or would you apply it first and touch up after??
The reason for the question is I want to apply it using 400 grit wet/dry paper and to do this I will need a lot of elbow room and also avoid corners etc.

Hi ernknot,
one or two coats before assembly is the go. Then assemble and hand rub last coat with cloth or with the yellow/sponge side of those scourer things.

With this method be careful not to get oil on joints to be glued. If concerned you can tape up dowels/mortices etc.

conwood,
Thanks for the info. What if you do get oil on joints to be glued? Wipe with turps, sand it back or what?

Hi ernknot,

Sorry about the late reply. Yes, wipe of and sand,or if possible use a rasp too. a good rasp really roughs the surface and provides good purchase for the glue. Where possible I use screws.
