ahem. From the Urban dictionary:
<table id="entries"><tbody><tr><tr><td>

Many straight men end up having man crushes on Johnny Depp (I don't blame them).

Here I am, sitting here, minding my own business reading man stuff and here is this question by mic-d, almost very 'un-man' like. Ahem...
Oh well, let me be the first. I sorta idolised (not man crush, okay?) Steven Fry. Wit, intelligence and superb vocabulary. The problem with this is that Mr. Fry is gay and if I admit to a man-crush my wife would double over with laughter.
Think I've blown my image now... :C

Steven Fry is pretty cool, but sjt your open post hasn't convinced me that I should blab:D:q
But I will say he is a woodworker and quite a traditionalist using a lot of hand tools, but is also not afraid to embrace machinery like the TS, jointer thicknesser, router etc. His skill with handtools and his eye for perfection is incredible.:)

The initial signs are a fetish revolving around thumb screws. At this stage you are most likely only going to upset the subject concerned. As the disease evolves down the inexorable path, symptoms may include insatiable desires for extreme S & M and now you have become a menace to society in general. You may become wanted, but only occasionally by a partner: More often by the authorities... Oh!! Half a tick, did you mean a sensitive type of man-crush:wink:?
:D.

I'm just having fun scanning thousands of old photos! I came across several photos that show where my crush began! In a previous life (When I still had hair) I had the opportunity to meet HRH Charles and show him that I could make plastic models. He was very impressed!
It was fantastic to meet a man of a higher station, it was a rare opportunity for this commoner. I never washed my lab coat after that.

Perhaps HRH misunderstood and thought that broken structure in your hands represented the chain of succession to the throne. An easy mistake to make, but does explain his dejected look.:)

Ok so I don't really have a man-crush on Charlie if you didn't guess. I was just reading Enoch's Guide to Getting Ahead and it said to bignote yourself at every opportunity, so I did...:;:;
Actually, this is the fella I find pretty interesting...
here is one of his podcasts...

Of the 25 or so minutes I think I lasted about 4 or so. Nice joinery however I think the words I'm trying to find are "full of himself". Or as you say, big noting.
I still maintain that my man crush on Steven Fry is healthy.

I think we all have a man crush hidden in there somewhere. Stephen Fry does have a wit and linguistic presence unlike any other. Bloody brilliant host of QI.
Hugh Jackman does it for me. Multi talented and a great family man, all while maintaining the body of an earth bound god. Makes me happy to see someone who can make it in the public eye and still retain his love and respect for his wife and family.
Be it known to all though, I'm also straight as a die :D although I have been accused otherwise on more occasions than one.

He's just a typical Yank perhaps in that he dares to become greater than he was. Full of himself maybe, and well deserved. He's survived a near fatal car accident, alcoholism and the murder of his sister, but he's gone on to become one of the most successful promoters of the craft in the US and a great role model to those coming through. I find him quite charming and self depricating. Perhaps I am deluded because I watched all 83 episodes in that build and several more hours of other pod casts. I should have stopped at four minutes of viewing to obtain the correct interpretation!:p:D

Sorry Mic, didn't mean to offend, I suppose I should of turned the sound off and looked. Where I come from humility is the norm and if I built that stunning Bombe Secretary then I probably would of let the images do the talking. I also don't have time to look into everyone's biography however he does seem to have had a hard time in life. Saying that, I consider him boastful and find that someone like Derek Cohen more of a role model and self-depreciating.

Man-crush, hero worship, adulation are all terms we use to admire our fellow men. No problem there. My own preference is for humility over arrogance. That's not always the american way.:)

James who? (I don't follow cricket:oo:).
Interesting, the heroes we nominate. I chose actors. You have mentioned royalty and sportsmen. I suspect our real role models are in our everyday life, but they are doomed to miss out on the recognition they deserve. It is ironic, because they don't care:rolleyes:.
If we examine our thoughts a little perhaps we are identifying with successful people or high profile personalities who, despite that revered status, seem unaffected by the wealth and fame.

I knew somebody would pick me up on that one:).
Three statements: Firstly the age thingy. It made a more interesting statement to not know any young men, but as you have guessed not an entirely accurate satement. I have in the past stated that getting older has the advantage that more and more women become attractive. I am a little hesitant to say the same about men. Let's say they are persons of interest.
Secondly: Only women develop like fine wines. Men develop character, which may just be a euphemism for their rascally behaviour.
Thirdly: The effect of wine?

Oh, if I need to be serious about who I really admire, if I really had to nominate just one person, it wouldn't be royalty (Yikes!) or sportspeople, or cabinet-makers, it would be this guy - Dr Noel Fitzpatrick.

If you've got a spare hour have a listen to the interview with Margaret.

To be honest it is the people who put up with all sorts of adversity, (pain chronic illness etc...) that don't let their burdens get them down and strive to live a normal life are the ones that I really admit\re. :)
