Very proud of myself in just completing a timber deck (2m above ground). Handrail in place and now wish to insert steel wire rope (cable rail?). All literature says spacings between SWR can be max of 125mm to min 70 mm. Thats useful but not very helpful. I was considering 110mm. I live in Maleny Qld (Caloundra council area) - their website has no info on spacings. Any asssitance would be appreciated.

I don't know about QLD but in NSW a hand rail must be at least 1200mm high and I don't think horizontal cables would be allowed especially something a child could climb up and over.
Usually has to have vertical bars and no foot grips.

I seem to recall reading that the 125mm dimension comes from an "average" child's head being bigger than a 125mm diameter sphere. The idea is that a 125mm sphere must not be able to fit through any gap in the railings, thus preventing a child getting their head stuck between the cables.
