The brown beaches are different to what we see in Oz,
we usually have light sandy beaches,
(the Kiwis are stuck with black beaches).

Red sand, I think it has something to do with the geological period
known as Devonian, there are tracts of this stuff on different continents. Perhaps at Alice Springs?

Thats a baby pier Jow.
Look at http://www.downsouth.com.au/frameset-bsnjetty.html to see the Busselton Jetty which extends over 2 km out to sea. It is older than 80 years. You can read all about it at the above link.

Unfortunately, the waves are bigger than we had here on the south coast of NSW today, of course I am on holidays and there is no surf and none due until Monday, when I am back at the salt mine! :D Seriar#ely, it's good to see other parts of this planet, from the comfort of the comfy reclining office chair . . . :p

That is a beautiful pier, but, I wouldn't like to walk to the far end carrying all my fishing gear like I used to do when I was a youngster(10/12years). I see there is a train service.
In England we used to have the longest pier in the northern hemisphere,
Southend, also around 2kms and I know all about walking to the end of such things especially winter times around 2C and strong winds. I couldn't afford the passenger fare.
Thanks for the link.

John, that one of the harbour looks like a jigsaw puzzle we had years ago.

If you right click the picture and go to properties you will see that the picture is dated 2003.
However if you need help still with the puzzle I should know where the bits go with my eyes shut.

Day 4 Cockington

Cockington is a very small suberb of Torbay between Paignton and Torquay and has many preservation orders placed on the properties stopping any modernisation or redevopment, In this instance I agree with the local authorities, this in moderation is a worthwhile mandate.

We have just left Cockington and driven past Fawlty Towers (I'll get a picture sometime soon) and coming into the main town of the bay, Torquay.
