wet and dry - hook and loop sandpaper

Not sure where to post this question so its in a couple of forums.

I recently sprayed a burl slab table top with mirratone precat 60% and it's ok but my mentor (the schmuck that introduced me to the smell of sawdust and took my life away :D ) suggested I cut and polish it - ie rub it down with a very fine wet and dry paper (wet of course) and then polish it with any car polish and it would improve the depth of the finish.

So I inquired about hook and loop wet and dry to use on the ROS but was told I would have to get them made and in quantities of about 200.

So is it worth cutting and polishing and if so any suggestion of who in Victoria may stock hook and loop/valcroe wet and dry paper in standard quantities???

but in theory
if you cut and polish a car you use a buffer
would this not be adequate enough ?

You use a buff after the wetrub on a car.
Rowan, I've never seen hook'n'loop on W&D before.

Rowan - You can buy 1200 grit to fit most ROS's. Try someone who supplies the Auto trade. We currently are trialing some 1500 grit hook and loop which we may be cutting small disks from in the new year.

1200 grit is more than enough for what you want, follow up with EEE Ultra Shine (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/eee.htm) this is a cut and plish designed for woodwork not cars. A U-Beaut (http://www.ubeaut.com.au/ubhome.htm) product, wich DOES NOT contain silicone and is 100% safe for use on most timber finishes. It loves most lacquered finishes.

The man in Orange (triton) make the hook and loop up to 1200. Its usually with all the triton stuff, not with the sandpaper

If you are using a modern ros with some nice non loading paper you may not need "wet".
I used to wet hand rub stuff once till I had a disaster & decided to have at it with the ros. I was very impressed with the result. afterall the auto trade is mooving across to machine dry sanding.
400, 600, 1200 dry sand with the ros no problem. Tell me of im wrong.
It pays to use a vac for dust extraction.
