Hi, I am new to the forums and to the whole art of selecting the right finish.

I am building a storage box for my fishing gear. i'm over having gear strewn around the house and shed. Its going to have a number of removable compartments to be taken fishing with me, so i want a really robust finish thats also going to provide water protection. Im building it out of plywood with kauri inlays.

I want to stain the plywood to give a darker finish but i havent got a clue what would give me a strong and lasting finish. Any help would be appreciated.

If it is not exposed to too much sunlight, use epoxy. If it will be exposed to much sun, use a good marine varnish. To get the best water protection and UV protection, use epoxy and overcoat it with the marine varnish.

Two good brands are West Systems and System Three.
