Apologies if there is a good thread on this...I need a spray gun, I know nothing about them...

- I want it to be easy to use and clean
- Provide a high quality of finish (after some practice of course)

Do I get something like a Wagner W867E?

Or

Should I get a compressor and a HVLP gun?

I want it mainly for paint I guess...but I have read of people spraying my standard finish, which is hard shellac. I use mainly water based paint, with a 2 pac style sealer (the stuff Durobond make)

Any advice would be most appreciated, both on type of system, brand and models.

I think you better start with the air spray gun. It is quite low price, simple and flexible.
You can buy a cup gun and of course you will need a compressor for the air supply.
There are many brand you can try. The most important thing is you need to understand the type and specification.
Almost all finishing material can be applied by air spray gun.

Thanks

Good luck

I use a Star 770 to put my finishes on, they are cheap enough to have a couple of different sizes for different finishes.

They are on sale at tradetools direct for about $70 at the moment.

Many thanks, sounds like a compressor is the way to go, whats the go with belt v direct drive?

Any thoughts on capacity? horse power and volume of tank?

I wont be doing big jobs - doors, cabinets, table tops that kinda thing

G'day Elill,

I've got a 40litre direct drive compressor, not an expensive one, came from the big green shed. Had it for 6 months so far, not long really, but it's had a bit of work in that time. No problems at all with it.
