Hi - hope someone can help. I have just finsihed sanding a rimu wood table. I used Danish Oil to finish it. The colour is very yellow and I was hoping to keep the light natural colour of the wood. Can I get it back to its original colour and would liming white work to maintain original colour?

I find rimu darkens quite a lot with all oil-type finishes. Maybe a shellac finish might be better? (Never used it myself, but it seems to be quite popular on here).

Yep, what NZStu said; A light coat of shellac as a base sealer, no flooding as this will fill the pores and won't allow the oil to take up, then very lightly sand with 1000 grit only to de-nib (remove the high spots from the grain raising) then oil.
Cheers, Evan :)
