Planing, scraping and sanding and then to get a glass finish go and buy a sheet of glass and glue it on. :D :D :D

Bob,

Raising the grain is only needed if you use a cheap water based finish. Something Ralph would never use. :D :D :D

Good Evening Friends,
To achieve the smooth as glass finish here are the four steps.
1.For tight grained woods such as maple, just sand to 220 and apply your desired finish. For open grained woods make up a slurry of wood putty and spread it diagonally to fill the open pores and grain, then sand when dry to 220 and apply finish.
2.To make polyurethane finish flow smoothly without brush marks, add three table spoons of paint thinner in a quart of high gloss finish. Do not use fast drying poly. Brush on three coats, sanding with 220 grit sand paper between coats.
3. Sand the third coat of finish with 320, 420, and then 600 grit sand paper.Remove the sanding dust. Inspect the surface for flaws by wiping with thinner. Then apply finish.
4.Remove any dust moats with 1500 grit sand paper. Make a pad with a soft cotton rag, and buff the surface to a high sheen with 3M Finesse-it II Finishing Material.

Who in the world said this was EASY?

Thank you for your support.

Ralph,

We do like your quizzes, honest, even when we tease you by giving you silly answers.

I wonder if you've ever visited the home page of this forum?
