Hi Everyone,
Have Family wanting to get some CB Radios.
What does one pay for a 2nd. hand Radio, & is it advisable to go 2nd. hand.
They are on a Farm & want to put CB's in all the Vehicles, + the home.
Are there any Regulations to do with CB's.
Any feed back would be much appreciated.

I would go new.
No regulations regarding UHF CB but there are certain channels reserved for emergencies.

I bought these for $60-ish for the pair:
Buy Oricom Walkie Talkies - PMR 1200 | Read Reviews | BIG W Online Store Australia (http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/landline-phones/bpnBIGW_0000000248530/null)
for my daughter to replace the $14 cheap and nasties she got for christmas a while back.
We've got 4km range out of them in a suburban setting, and the batteries seem to last forever.
At prices like this, why would you bother with 2nd hand? Even vehicle units don't cost much more than this.
Cheers,
Andrew

Hi isatree,
I would recommend going with new, as you don't know what treatment the 2nd
hand ones have had.
Being a retired farmer I have used them for many years. UHF is the way to go.
More important is to use good antennas and leads and a regulated power supply in the home.
We were able to get about 30 km range in flat to undulating country.
Channel 40 is the truckies call channel, there is also a dedicated emergency channel
but I can't recall what it is.
Listen to all channnels and when you find one that is relatively quiet make that your
home channel.
Hope this is some help.
