I needed to (species) match some dowel for a recent project and a mate suggested this method..
(apologies if everyone already knows about it)
1...drill a series of holes in some 6mm flat bar steel
2..cut chosen wood slightly over dowel size..(eg..6mm dowel = 8mm blank)
3..place blank over the hole and bash the $h!`; out of it with a hammer..
4..Voila!!...matching dowel...
5..noice :2tsup:

Yes that makes good sense Underfoot;
though one would have to ensure the steel plate was robust enough for the forcing.
Thanks for the tip.
Cheers, Crowie

Undie:doh:, I'm sure D1 has read the thread that was running a while back on dowel plates etc. Suggest you go and check with her for the finer points discussed in the thread:D Yes they are a great idea, but as I think I said in the old thread on some of my projects I have used up to 2m of colour matched dowel which makes a plate a bit slow. See if you can track that other thread down.:2tsup:
