I would like to build a speaker matching the Bose 601 and i can't find the type of finish in order to make it identical. You can see these speakers at the following link

Bose 601 serie III - Sant'Agostino (14985349) - eBay Annunci (http://annunci.ebay.it/annunci/audio-tv-e-video/ferrara-annunci-sant-agostino/bose-601-serie-iii/14985349)

I think it's oak but i am not sure

Here are some clearer pictures

Looks like American walnut to me.

Hey Konilio,

The Bose 601 series 3 manual states: "Genuine hardwood veneer with walnut finish".
Hope this helps:U

Yep it should be a veneer as the best possible wood for speakers is chipboard. It should not be a tonewood as that could add unwanted effects. So dull old chipboard covered with something is best.
But in saying that do you know if the box is sealed? has it a tube fitted inside? Building a speaker cavity is not just about bolting speakers on a plate in a box. You have to balance the air to the back of the speaker in the correct way otherwise it adds distortion.
