Hi guys, not much experience with woodwork but it's something I've wanted to get into for a while and now I've got a bit of spare time I thought I would get into a few projects.
I've picked up a hardwood bed head for a king ensemble and want to strip it back down to the timer, and then re-stain/paint it into a modern darker chocolate colour (to match this - IKEA | Living room storage | Bookcases | EXPEDIT | Bookcase (http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/30185484)), but I really have no idea where to start so I found this forum and thought I would get some advice.
I've picked up a belt sander, but I'm wondering if it would be easier, or even possible to just use a paint stripper to lift everything off before sanding it smooth. Do I need to add some sort of sealer before I apply the new paint and do I also need to add a clear coat afterwards?
If someone wouldn't mind laying out the steps involved I would appreciate it greatly.
