He didn't research very hard to see if living structures had been done before.

And I'm sure I've seen benches in Medieval gardens that are woven out of living branches of bushes!

Although his chairs are quite fun! :U

You're quite correct. Training trees to produce more accessible fruit or garden ornaments is an ancient practice. As is training stems of Blackthorn to produce specific shapes for walking sticks.

...and there's no booky-computer interface thing here....and no kids around....

Hi this is Becky from pooktre.
Umm you do remember what the internet was like 13 years ago don't you? We didn't even own a computer. Our library didn't have anything like what we do. But as my life partner Pete says if we had the idea logically others would have.

The image of the living bridge only turned up online about 2 and half years ago. See how easy it is to forget that most of the content online is new and updating?

Yes there is lots of talk about seeing images 'somewhere' of living benches, yet when I've asked for scans or a link guess what over 40 people have been unable to show anything. I would love to see something like this. :U

I would love to see something like this. :U:C:D Oh hi! Actually i don't remember what the internet was like then cos I've only been on line probably for 4 years or so.

I do love what you guys are doing with living wood. I guess my comment was a bit flippant, but only referring to the statement that "nothing like this had been done before". Always a risky thing to say! :C But I do remember seeing living branches being woven into benches and arbors with chairs under them. Now I'll have to look through every magazine I own and find it!

Really I would love it if you find something, I have another site Treeshapers (http://www.TreeShapers.net) were I'm trying to record the history of the different artists. If you find something I like to be able to added to there. Good luck with your search.
