We have been hosting foreign students for years, mostly from Japan. Had close to 40 from there so far, some long stays but mostly short to medium stays.
Yesterday we had reports from several that they a re well and we should not worry. Really pleased to hear that.:):):)

Arthur thats great news
We have a friend who's wifes family lives just south of the most southern effected area and are still on alert.
I worked with many Japanese interpreters years ago I hope they are all ok
Our only Japanese ex-change student we lost contact with some years ago. she was just heading to Uni or was it getting married.

Good news Art.
There's hope for the world yet, we just have to keep talking to each other.

My side of my family has just been through the Christchurch quakes and now it's my wife's turn. Her family all accounted for....father is in Wakkanai and far from the action. One brother in Sapporo....a bit closer to the action but to the north. Brother no 2 is in Yokohama and works as a paramedic...he's been run off his feet with power cuts, stranded commuters and other madness.
One friend in Sendai has finally checked in...amazingly her house survived the tsunami and her power and water are back on.

That's great to hear! My wife grew up with quite a few Japanese students aswell and the ones she has heard from so far are okay.
