View Full Version : Name ideas for two rambunctious kittens

Went to a cat shelter the other day, and two rambunctious black kittens (brother & sister) selected us as their new staff. Two cats are of course four times the fun of one, and these two just love a bit of biffo - right up my street. Another slightly older cat "Merlin" was really friendly, and tried his best to select us, but unfortunately for him he failed the play test miserably (he didn't even look at the ping pong ball as it bounced passed).

So, they arrive this Sunday, and two names are required. If you haven't the TV show, then you won't know what I'm talking about, but I think one of the them definitely has to be "Blackatter" (say it slower if you think I'm odd) which would leave for the girlie "Queenie" (too cute), "Lizzie" (better), "Nursie" (yes I like that), or perhaps one of Miriam Margoyles guest characters (the Spanish Princess or the fearsome rich Aunt - have to research their names). Actually it could even be just Miriam couldn't it?

On the other hand, if I bend the rules a bit and call the girlie "Blackatter" (and it is a surname after all) then the boy could be Percy, Melchie or Melchet, Baldrick (or Baldick, seeings how we'll have him circumcised), George of course (actually thought of that before "Blackatter", but not in relation to Hugh Laurie's complete fop of Prince Regent), Wellington (the Duke of, another great Stephen Fry appearance).

So, all suggestions welcome (even other names, must be a pair, nothing cute or obvious p-lease.

Cheers, Brett

PS my other cats have been Basil, Halibut, Arthur (one fabulous cat, and a champion gymnast), Louis and Nimrod (and yes he was). Just so's you know where I'm coming from. BTW my son is Spot, and my Daughter is Puss-Puss.

I have brought two kittens home from cat shelters(Sippy-Down Animal Refuge), they are both the loveliest cats I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Congrats! :D

Forgot to add that the winner gets a frozen catscat by registered mail. Don't let that put you off entering.

So, they're here and settled in immediately, and no "accidents" yet. When it came down to it "Blackatter" was too hard to resist, and the goil is "Lizzie".

The cat lady brought the wrong female so we've asked her to bring the other one as well on Wednesday. She'll be "Nursie".

TANKSTAND: You obviously spent your childhood getting square eyes! There were some good suggestions though: we particularly liked 99 & 86. Herman & Lilly was good too. Even though you didn't win you can still claim the prize if you like.

HARRY: Buck Shot, very clever!

Thanks all for your interest.

Well we've had these three little buggers for nine months now, and what a packet of fun they are! Brother and two sisters, and a very tight little trio, which is just great. Not a day goes by without some kind of laughter (sometimes near hysteria).

Even though they are siblings they have very different personalities. It's funny how 2 of them have lived up to their names. Blackatter, like his Rowan Atkinson namesake, tries to laud it (lord it?) over the girls (and us) but when it comes down to it, with other cats and humans, he's a complete and utter wuss. The Vet very kindly kept his nuts in a jar of spirit which nows sits on the mantlepiece. Occasionally I have to threaten him with feeding them to him. When he's really naughty I tell him that I'm going to make him watch me put them through a mincer.

Nursie (the Queen's maid, and an utter nutter you might recall) is completely crazy. She's the funniest cat I've ever had, and is usually the leader of the play. If I get one of those super-size plastic shopping bags she'll go straight into, and I can then pick it up, carrying her around the house while she chases phantoms in the bag, crashing around making a helluva racket. I dunno what the fascination is, but I think the crashing noise has a lot to do with it.

We had 6 or 8 visitors for lunch a few months ago, and of course B & L racked off somewhere, but Nursie was sitting in the middle of a (tight) ring of six complete strangers looking at each of them in turn. It looked like she was thinking "Jeez, you guys are all really tall. Got any pats for me?". Later, we learnt that she was doing the rounds under the table during lunch, unbeknowns to us.

A few months ago I had several Woodpecker's deliveries, and Colt Drills as well, so the dining room was chocked with empty cartons, large sheets of paper and a million featherweight soccer balls. They had so much fun with it, chasing phantoms, crashing around tackling each other etc that I just had to leave it there for a few weeks. It's a transit room in the house, and they hide in there, "waiting for customers".

I promise you, you've never laughed until you've seen 3 kittens, 2 ping pong balls in 1 bath (sans water, but wet enough to stop traction). Amost every night after dinner they play a thunderous game of chasings, up and down the length of the house (timber floors). I swear that they're playing tip! Although quite often it turns into tackle! You walk to no particular spot, and three unseen large black rats suddenly fly off in all directions. I tell yer, they're a crack-up!:D

These guys are the best anti-depressants going around. They actually work! They turn :( to:).

Favourite foods: Moths, blowflies, bush roaches and skinks.
Most desirable, untried food: Sparrows, Silver Eyes, Bulbuls and the Wattle Bird that constantly taunts them
Favourite game: Chasings, Kitchen Soccer, Attack from the Grass
Most fascinating place: The Barn, followed by the all too rarely seen Garden Shed
Most frightening sound: a squirt of compressed air

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the update FF. Looks like a fun crowd.
I have a black cat( as well as two other non black cats) that could be the twin(quadruplet?) of that lot.
I can hold a shopping bag open on the floor and she will charge from across the room, full pelt into the bag, sending the bag rocketing across the room (with her in it). She'll thrash around in there for a while, untangle herself and line up on the far side of the room for another go.

Damn,

I got to this one too late, but I think you folks should all try your hand at the two threads

Photo needs a caption

and

Caption needs a photo.

If I could have jumped into a time machine I might have suggested

Pussy Galore and Goldfinger

but as ours has a broken warp drive I won't say anything.
