Hi Chrstopha, these days there just cm ie 56 etc When I was in Florence last year I walked into one of the high end shops and said I'd like one like the one on the left in the windo in black please. The elderly woman attendant pulled one out of a box, I put it on (fitted perfectly) paid and i was on my way. She had had a lot of practice.

Try on lots of hats till one fits?

If there's a good hat shop nearby they should be able to let you try a load on. I recently bought a cheap ($5?) hat at Officeworks and they had lots of sizes!

Measure round your head.
... and divide by pi (3.1416). Or use a "pi tape." Really: Stanley #33-115 (inches; might be a metric version somewhere).

Cheers,
Joe

Basically you need to measure your head exactly where the hat will sit.
Place a piece of string or a flexible tape around your head about 1/8” above your ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head. Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly.

How about trying them on; like putting them on your head and when you find one that fits, look inside and you should see the size printed on a label. Write down that size and keep it safe for later or better still tear the label from the hat and keep in your wallet. That way you will always know your hat size.:p

OK, now as the pointy part of me scone is way up at the top an me ears are down below the level of me eyes whereabouts do ya reckon I should perch me new 'at?

It was a serious question (nearly) and as there aren't any hat shops handy in my neck of the beach and as the only measurin' deevices I have are a folding rule and a steel tape or twelve then the string one is good. It's well known that my head is larger than most due to the enormity of my intellect ;) so it is difficult to know what size ;at I should buy off Epay when they are cheap coz I am a lousy old bugger.

Christopha why are you Velcroing your hat to your head??:U Oh thats right nothing to hang onto its a slippery surface.:q

I have a few Caps which do not have velcro but use an adjustable tab and there are elastic type also.

You know above the ears is good. The look where the ears are pushed out like dumbo is not to be encouraged.

There is a really old shaggy dog story from, I think, the radio program 'my word' with the punchline (and I quote) "if the foo #####, wear it".
