I have a 6inch random orbit sander with a loop and hook pad, and am wondering if it is possible to use this as a polisher / buffer on furniture projects, and even on the table saw after it has been cleaned and waxed.

Are there polishing /buffer pads available for this application?

Yes, Jill. With reservations.
For the best finish final polishing should be with the grain. With a ROS there is the possibility of swirl marks. Use you ROS at low speed to avoid burning. If it has dual orbit use the smaller orbit.
My Velcro lambswool pads came as a pair, Makita brand, from a Makita Shop in Glenfords. If one of your tool stores in Townsville has a Makita Shop it might be a good place to start.
And Lee Valley have Surebuf (http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=51091&cat=1,190,43034&ap=2)pads in 2 sizes and Micromesh (http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=62146&cat=1,190,43040)pads in 5" only.
