Grain filler alternative

It's not easy to find woodworking products around here :no: .
What can I use as an alternative to grain filler (was looking for Rustins grain filler - natural)?

Have applied 3 layers of Danish oil to rifle stock, flattening down with steel wool in between, but grain is till very open in some areas. Plan is to flat it down again and then apply grain filler before applying Danish oil again.

Will this work?

I think a clear filler will be ideal.

You can save the sawdust & mix it with a thinned wood glue & use that to fill in the grain. Find a piece of wood about the same color & make dust & do the same.

I saw on another thread they talk about wet sanding with the oil - might try that too.

I use a finely-powdered quartz. However, it must always be used wet as it is dangerous to the lungs if ingested as a dust. So it is never to be used dry. I use a pre-mixed slurry of the quartz and danish oil and apply with 400 grit paper for the first coat and then successive coats of danish oil. It does the trick.
