Hi All,

Have a question relating to an appropriate finish for a childs bed.

I have just made a simple bed frame out of DAR Pine. The plan was frame the existing mattress & base from the child cot.

I am a little confused about how to best finish bed? I would really like to finish it in a basic white semi gloss.

How is the best way to tackle it?? Interested in your thoughts .....

Much appreciated

Do a search on "environmentally friendly paint" and you will get a whole lot of listings. When you look closer, they are all casein based paints. In other words, milk paint. You can make your own. It's really not that hard but white is not easy. Porter's sell milk paint in a packet ready to mix if you can't be bothered.

I had the same 'challenge' while finishing playhouse for my daughter, made out of pine + mdf + plywood. The main preference is solid white color. Being inexperience in painting children furniture, I need to do lots of research regarding which paint would be easy to apply, and "children safe".

Water based finish would/should be the first option, however water based paint (solid colour) for wood is not easily available, ... especially here in Indonesia. If I could "finally" found one here, then I'm sure that you should be able to find similar product in Aussie too.

Here's the product that I use:
Mowilex | PRODUCT (http://mowilex.com/eng/prod_ws_age.php)

Most water base paint would have the following advantages:
• Non-hazardous and odourless
• Non-decayed colours
• Long-lasting glossy effect
• Easy to dry
• Dirt-repellent and easy to clean
• Porous surface
• Easy-to-clean apparatus

I just use the foam roller to apply this paint and the result is fantastic! :2tsup::2tsup:

Thx..
