Screen door closers

My front door security screen door closer drives me mad. It always tries to catch my heels as I go through the door. I've turned the adjusting screw all the way in but it won't give me a nice even slow close. Instead it swings fast to almost closed, then bounces back half open from the closer pressure then eventually closes. I bought a new one from Bunnings but it was exactly the same so I took it back. Is there a particular brand or type I should try that will give a nice steady close? Bunnings only seemed to have one brand. The one on there is a whilco? brand.
