Good Evening Friends,
When sharpening chisels and hand plane blades, how do you remove the burr on the backside of them?

I used to do it with the heel of my hand. Now I do it with some green honing compound and a bit of MDF or my nail bag, what ever is handy.

Ahh Radiata......the versatile weed. Good for packing crates, gluts to stack real timber on and also makes great deburring media. :p

Good Evening Friends,
Good answers by both of you fellows, as for myself I use an old shaving strop that my grandfather had for his chisels, knives and planer blades.
I use jeweler's rouge on it and back draw the back of the tool then flip it over and back drag the slope. Continuing till I achieve the sharpness I desire.
One thing I don't do is to check the sharpness by rubbing my thumb across the edge as I have seen some do.

Thank you for your support.

Respectfully,
