Help! Oil on wood.

I hope somebody might be able to help me with a problem.

About 6 months ago I accidently spilled some tuna oil on a wooden seat in the backyard. Foolishly, I did not cleaned it up and now I see that it's seeped through the wood and very sticky indeed.

Is there anything I could use to clean it up?

I really want to sand it down and varnish it, and I could kick myself for not doing that before spilling the oil on it. :(

What finish on your table?
You may try to wipe off your oil with a mineral spirit. It may help to clean up your oil, but if your finish is an oil finish it will dissolve your finish.
If it is does n work, so the only thing you can do is to wipe off your finish with acetone, sand it and re finish your table.

As Wisno said, try saturating it with mineral spirits (white spirits or turps) and wiping off as much as possible, then hit it again and cover with kitty litter (Fullers earth) to try and draw the remainder out. You may have to do this several times. Good luck.

thanks for that. I don't know what the finish on the seat is/was.
I wiped it with mineral turps and then scrapped some off and I could see that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The mineral turps helped soften the gluggy oil which was great but I will still have to sand it down.

thanks for that.... still working on it but I will get there eventually!

After I have cleaned it up as best as possible, can anybody tell me what the best vanish/oil/finish I can use? I want the best finish possible and something that will last a very long time, and I don't mind spending a little extra for this! Cheers.

Marine varnish maybe ? . Possibly one of the better outdoor ones
