Good Evening Friends,
When planing wood in your planer, you get best results by running the wood with the knives cutting with the grain.
How do you know for sure you are running the board into the planer with the grain?

Often looking at the direction of grain on the edge of the board or by rubbing your hand both direction on the face of the board to planed and picking the grain direction from there.
That’s how I do it for hand planes but sometimes there are surprises especially on curly grained timber.

Good Evening Friends,
I know that for safety sake one should not run in the shop as things could happen that wouldn't should one just walk.
Wood Borer, you are correct in your answer a that is what I was looking for.
I am in the process of planing 108 BF of poplar 4/4 lumber and only use 1/16" decreasing cuts at a time and run the entire pile before changing the setting.
Respectfully,
