Hi

We are new to Australia, We are in Adelaide. My son will turn 6 in November but he always liked building and wood. We go to bunnings to buy wood , and then he cuts it, but that is where all my knowledge stops.
He loves building. He has build a brick house before (not a real one but quite a big one) .
I want to send him to some craft or woodwork classes, but could not find anything on the internet.

Today I found this site, Where could I send him?

Thank you
Andrea

I'm sorry Andrea but I cant help you with any guidance, but I would love your son to come on and talk to us old B#$@%d's anytime, it would make our day if we knew we were helping a little feller! on a path that would serve him well for the rest of his days, that also extends to your good self as well, maybe theres a few blokes on here that could direct you! to a more "solid" solution :2tsup:

Bunnings run regular kids classes. Not sure if there is an age limit. Oh and welcome to you both :U

Welcome to the forum, yes Bunnings run some courses and I think some of them are for children. I would ask at your local Bunnies and see what is on offer. Great to see the young guy taking an interest, welcome aboard young feller:2tsup:

Better still go HERE (http://www.bunnings.com.au/services_kids-activities.aspx) and it will list a few of the things that Bunnings offer for children.

Hope the link works, if not go to Bunnings Warehouse - Lowest prices are just the beginning - Bunnings Warehouse (http://www.bunnings.com.au/) and then click on the tab at the top of the page "Our Services"

Local library is also an option......I'm sure I've seen woodworking books with projects for kids in them.

Hi Andrea,

Was in the big 'B' store a couple of weeks ago and could hear all this banging and tapping, so headed off to see what all the commotion was. I found a heap of about 6 to 10 year olds whacking nails in kids' tool boxes with mums and dads standing behind.

They were all having a great time and doing a great job at hammering in nails too I might add. Hopefully this is done by all their stores. Best of luck.

Cheers
Pops

Hi Andrea and son

I agree with al said above library old book stores where you can pick up old woodworking magazines or markets. The net of course plenty plans on there.

How about a photo of his brick palace.

Another option is to watch ABC TV Can We Help show Friday nights they do a segment with kids often making things. ABCTV - Can We Help? (http://www.abc.net.au/tv/canwehelp/)

If you ever come over to Port Vincent for a few days, or even a weekend I can most probably solve your problem, as run Toy-making classes here for anyone who may be interested. Mostly get the local kids at present. Usually say from 9yrs. & older, for MOST kids,-for safety's sake,- but IF your lad is really keen, and wants to learn things then he will qualify.
Already have a good young helper with me,- a 13yr.old local lad, ( Jesse ), who is already showing his woodworking talents,- and knows more about woodturning than I do !!!! Jesse is one of those rare kids who can mix well with adults,- and other kids,- compared to the majority of 13 yr.olds.
Anyway If you, or anyone else who may also be interested, wish to know more, about anything simply give me email me direct on;-
[email protected]

( Hope I don't get shot, drawn, quartered, & thrown in the lions den for putting my email addy here !!! )
Roger:)
